    New to bolt guns.

You don't provide much input regarding price and other preferences. But, if you want the best accuracy/reliability/cost matrix, Savage is hard to beat for an out of the box shooter first bolt gun......broad model offerings. First bolt gun caliber would largely depend upon age, personal whim...

My thoughts on 22lr barrel length...

Curious....At some barrel length, powder burn ends with pressures beginning to drop and extra barrel length drag erodes MV. Have you checked velocity versus barrel length to see where the maximum MV occurs, and what velocity is lost as barrel length increases above the maximum length/velocity...

New tech and advancements are here. Whats the new best AR15 cartridge?

Peevishly, I'd vote .50BMG...and, yeah, I do have one on the AR platform. ARs are the Tinker Toys/Legos/Lincoln Logs of firearms. Do the two pin push.......pull....slap, maybe new mag, and you are totally transformed for duty. Cartridge offerings for AR15 platform have grown to the point one...

    Using a Zero that isn't 100yd - Why?

Turrets are fer twirling. If ya' can't rely on the twirl in your turret, you merely mounted a monocular on your rifle....it is not a scope.

    Using a Zero that isn't 100yd - Why?

Use 100yd zero for all rifles. Longer distances begin to introduce atmospheric/wind, ammo, shooter variables into the mix making the zero more "about zeroed." If one zeros at longer distances and holds for shots under their zero range, then one can zero at 100.....eliminating the myriad of...

Least expensive AR you’d trust your life to?

By asking these questions, you aren't ready to bet your life on any AR at any price yet. Reliable AR parts AND competency are required before one bets one's life on any weapon system. You are one of the most important components of a life saving system. Buy the least expensive assembled...

How are lenses cleaned at the factory?

I would check with each specific optic's manufacturer for their recommended procedure. Each manufacturer has proprietary lens coatings which are the heart and life blood of their optics every bit as much as the glass itself. Damaging the coating can greatly diminish optics performance.

Is body armor necessary for a civilian?

Daddy always said...."An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." First, get a copy/take a course/develop proficiency in LEFT OF BANG.....the Combat Hunter Profile Technique....identify environment anomalies/act.....so you recognize threats and act before you experience the BANG. Combat...

WHAT....a 260....no 6.5 CoolMoor???? Blasphemy, simply, Blasphemy, I tell you. But, to your specific question......UH....maybe $1000-$4000 for possibly 1/4" of diminishing returns.....if the shooter isn't the weakest link in the Consistency is King equation. I'd recommend to get a Tac A1 in...

Muzzle Brake for .223 or go "naked"?

As always depends upon your needs. If for a small youngster maybe just tarting our, maybe a muzzle brake. For other users, if you don't mind the cost/wait/dealing with BATFE asshats, maybe a suppressor. Otherwise, for inexpensive/quick route probably just put a flash suppressor on it like the...

mitutoyo digital caliper- Are they really worth it?

Mitutoyo or Starrett are the equivalent of precision long range fire versus the hand grenade area result of the cheapy Franklin, HF, etc. Both have a place.........amateur versus pro. Only you can decide what your needs are. If one is asking that question, one probably won't understand the...
