Gunsmithing Feeding reamer too fast or maybe chip? Chamber/brass issue

Thanks guys. Yes I'm going to leave it alone. I was just wanting to make sure it's not hiding a larger problem that could come up. It out shoots me on my best days. I'm very happy with the performance. If I could post pics from my phone or if I figure out another method, I'll post em. No stiller...

Gunsmithing Feeding reamer too fast or maybe chip? Chamber/brass issue

Thanks for that valuable info Chad! Did not know that about those reamers. Yes it should have been caught at the shop it was done at, which amongst other things, is why I'm looking at other smiths to do future work for me. Yes it does have a brake timed on it. I don't have any equipment to do...

Gunsmithing Feeding reamer too fast or maybe chip? Chamber/brass issue

Hey guys, had a question for some pro 'smiths out there. Just had a 300 rum built. Stiller predator with a Brux threaded in. I had a dummy round sent to PTG and they made the reamer. This is the first and only cut on it so far. First of I noticed they have it tight spec'ed. Neck and body are...

Berger or Lapua 185's in a 18" 12 twist bolt gun

Berger for sure...start at ^^^^^ but you'll more than likely end up between 46 & 47.6. Mine is avg 5/8" group at 200yds with win brass, 47.6 seated .110 off lands. Yeah you read it right, .110. Not sure why but I'll take it because now they are at mag length ;)

    New rifle!

Nice rifle! Those are shooters out of the box. Loaded for my buddies and it'll shoot right with my custom 700. Just my opinion, get a better quality rail. Had a blackhawk and it was NOT a true 20moa. Put an EGW rail on and I gained almost 5moa on my elevation turret. That will definately get you...

Curious question about measuring length from ojive

Colt250....you are understanding it correctly. Comparator is used as a common point on a bullet for judging seating depths, not as a specific point on the bullet where it actually contacts the lands. In theory you could use a .25 caliber comparator on a .30 cal bullet and it would still work the...

Curious question about measuring length from ojive

To my knowledge not true. Throat erosion is caused primarily by powder burn. Someone else may chime in with better info but in my years of firearms and reloading knowledge it really has nothing to do with type of copper jacketed bullets. My ultra mag will eat a barrel in 1200-1500 rds whether...

    Range Report .308 SMK 168 gr at 2820 + fps.... ???

A5m, you could try another chrono, a friends maybe, to verify or as Tx said shoot at farther distances, measure drop and use a ballistic app to verify results of velocity. As far as sticky bolt, yes it can be attributed to a hot load, improper headspace..... Are you bumping your shoulders? If...

Curious question about measuring length from ojive

The comparator set gives you a common measurement to go by no matter where the actual contact on the lands are. It will still be as accurate in seating depth off the contact point

Curious question about measuring length from ojive

Colt your on point a little bit....the comparator bushing should be the relative size of the common rifling ID of that caliber. A 308 has an absolute ID of .300 where the bore, or groove ID is .308. If you wanted to be that technical, it realign depends on leade angle and type of oGive of the...

Curious question about measuring length from ojive

Simply put.....you want to shoot 175smk say. Take one and measure chamber to lands. Then you can use that reading to seat those same bullets at a specified depth per your comparator. Once that lot number of those bullets are done....repeat step 1 with different lot # of same bullets or different...

Texas man hits 1 MOA target at 2.07 miles

That was great shooting in my book! Given the equip, and range to do so, I would be trying everyday until I was broke. That shits just cool!
