SAC: Floating Bolt Head Remington 700 prototype

That's going to be a damn tough sale! I build on Remington's all the time and often thought how nice it would be to have the savage style bolt, but this is just way over the top on price in my most humble opinion. Chuck

    6mm choice

my newest rig is a 6XC with a 20" barrel! I get 3050fps out of the 105 amax with 35.7gr of re15. this is a stout load but not hard on brass. the 6XC is very easy to form from 22-250 which is what I use or you can buy good norma brass for $75 per hundred. aside from the 6BR and 6PPC, this is the...

Gunsmithing Did I screw up this bedding job?

Gunsmithing ? about model 70 PF......need help ASAP

I am building my two younger brothers rifles and the youngest cant stand remingtons. he is a mauser and Winchester model 70 guy. I was wondering if the raceway on the push feed Winchester will be in the .702-.703 range like a Remington when it comes time to true up the receiver? I am needing to...

    Rem 700 extractor?

Re: Rem 700 extractor? I am sorry but I cant give you an opinion without some fired and sized brass to measure and look at. I could see an oversized chamber at the web and a small base die causing enough fatigue in that area to allow separations. what does fired brass ahead of the web measure...

    Rem 700 extractor?

Re: Rem 700 extractor? your doing it right as .002 is about perfect in my opinion. I do know that one firing with extreme headspace long ago in the cases life could very well manifest itself now. chuck

    Rem 700 extractor?

Re: Rem 700 extractor? the extractor has absolutely nothing to do with your case head separations. most likely you are bumping your shoulder back too far during sizing. have a sako extractor put in your bolt and your extractor woes will suddenly disappear. chuck

Gunsmithing For the guys who have chambered rifle barrels?

Re: For the guys who have chambered rifle barrels? looks like this and shortens the distance through the headstock over 3" vs. the 4 jaw on my machine. chuck http://ts3.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.5008649985196254&pid=1.7&w=182&h=142&c=7&rs=1

    Dies for precision/bolt action .308

Re: Dies for precision/bolt action .308 I use a redding or forster for full length sizing but I absolutely love the lee collet neck dies. they will produce ammo with less runout than just about any other die I have found. chuck

Gunsmithing For the guys who have chambered rifle barrels?

Re: For the guys who have chambered rifle barrels? I ran into this problem often. what I ended up doing is taking the extra face plate that came with the lathe and turning it down in diameter. then I drilled and tapped 4 holes 90* apart for set screws. grizzly sells these but I am not sure if...

Re: question for you guys making a living at this..... I told him to call the regional office which in this case is OKC Oklahoma. they told him the same thing. just doesn't make sense to me. just a bunch of bureaucratic bullshit as usual! chuck
