    Defiance or Big Horn Arms?

The bolt shaft and handle are not cast but in deed machined out of one solid piece of 4130 as opposed to our older tig welded assembly. Our floating bolt head remains the same and has not changed. We are trying to shift from taking orders directly to having our dealers doing the sales of our...

Gunsmithing Fixture for truing actions on a CNC mill??

I think Nate's adjustable chuck would work just fine also. Both fixtures give you the adjustment needed to dial in the bolt raceway. I thought Nates ball and sock design was a rather inovative approach to dialing in an action and I see no reason why you couldn't adapt it to a CNC mill.

    Coned Bolts & Magazine Feed

Re: Coned Bolts & Magazine Feed Now you are talking controlled round feed. The ejector protrudes from the bolt face of a Remmy 700 and will not allow the cartridge to slide up the face. You would need to modify it to a mechanical ejector like a Winchester, McMillan, or Dakota Arms. You are...

    Coned Bolts & Magazine Feed

Re: Coned Bolts & Magazine Feed Why? Cone bolts are usually done on single shots. The main reason for a cone bolt is to allow a cone on the back of the barrel this is to aid in the tip of the bullet getting started into the chamber. With a Mag cartridge you shouldn't have much problem getting...

Gunsmithing Seekins DBM - getting a 338 Edge to feed

Re: Seekins DBM - getting a 338 Edge to feed I believe the Seekins bottom metal and mags latch on the side in the rear. This allowed allot of play in the mag in the two examples I saw and the front of the mag would droop excessively in front. This allowed the tip of the cartridge to drop...

    Gunsmithing PTG DBM problem

Re: PTG DBM problem Stocks vary in depth thus the need to use the supplied pillars to set the correct action to bottm metal height. Most of the better after market stocks have been engineered with Surgeon or Badger bottom metal in mind to set flush on the bottom. But again there are allways...

    Gunsmithing PTG DBM problem

Re: PTG DBM problem Test fitting like ajwcottom suggested is a very good idea. The pillars should set the action to bottom metal distance correctly so the mag latch holds the magazine at the proper height for reliable feeding.

    Gunsmithing PTG DBM problem

Re: PTG DBM problem Most bottom metals come with pillars. These pillars set the distance of the bottom metal to the action. The bottom metal does not allways set flush with the bottom of the stock.

Gunsmithing problem with a bolt head

Re: problem with a bolt head The line down the bolt shaft is where the ejector hole is starting to break through the surface of the shaft. It is caused by too hot of loads and blown primers. The ejector and spring are getting forced down into the hole so hard they are starting to break out...

Gunsmithing Bolt face dent's on new Savage 338 lapua

Re: Bolt face dent's on new Savage 338 lapua Looks like a leaky primer caused some bolt erosion. I see the last cartride in the first picture looks like there is a small pin hole. In the 2nd picture(which you took at 180 degrees from the first) it is the first cartridge you can see it a...

Two stage trigger, any draw backs?

Re: Two stage trigger, any draw backs? The Huber is not a true two stage trigger. It is really a set trigger. Once the first stage is taken up the trigger has been set. The only way to reset the first stage is to open the bolt. I personally do not care for a set trigger on a field rifle.

Gunsmithing Can you hand ream a 308 barrel for a bolt rifle ?

Re: Can you hand ream a 308 barrel for a bolt rifle ? I know of an old farmer down the road that wouldn't hesitate trying it. He would most likely weld the reamer / or barrel to the PTO on his tractor so he could get it done quickly though. I saw him throat a barrel once with a hand drill. I...

    Crescent Customs "the Beiber"

Re: Crescent Customs "the Beiber" I believe cunthairs are similar to tons there are several standards. The US ton also known as the short ton, the British ton known as a long ton, and the Metric ton. So when working in cunthairs it is best not to work in different ones at the same time as it...
