Sako TRG 22 Muzzle Brake - is it really necessary?

Mirage band attachment point if I recall.

    Sling Suggestion for TRG 22

I use a USGI surplus loop sling and sling swivels. Sling supported shooting with the TRG is very stable and accurate.

Sako TRG 22 Muzzle Brake - is it really necessary?

I had the Sako version. It makes a lot of noise at the shooter position, kicked up dust making follow up shots harder to see, threw the balance of the rifle off when not using the bipod, and made the weapon longer and heavier. I sold mine to a friend that had the TRG-42 338 version where it is...

I don't remember. I also used Ballistic on the iPhone with the Litz data and it was pretty much identical results to the Applied Ballistics app on the Android.

Vectronix Terrapin vs Leica 1600 CRF

Recently my Leica and a friend's Terrapin couldn't range in fog. No surprise really. Ranges were shown less than 100 yards, even though targets were over 500. I've had similar issues with other range finders in snow and rain. The Leica 1200 I own has been pretty reliable on most targets and the...

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

Thanks for that. I'm happy with the metal trigger geometry on the AI (except that it is cold when it's freezing out), but it's good to know it can be swapped easily. In the past, I did try putting some heat shrink tubing over the metal trigger and it actually did work somewhat to make it less...

Rifle Scopes Poll - Scopes you have used and scopes you have broken.

Re: price point and vendors The price point difference I actually selected on purpose. I wanted to see if the "good glass" people paid for resulted in lower failure rates of the mechanics vs. lower priced alternatives. The vendors picked were simply what I felt were most popular based on what I...

Rifle Scopes Poll - Scopes you have used and scopes you have broken.

Admittedly this poll has severe limitations due to what the forum can do. It would be better if the person could indicate what brand they owned and what kind of problem it was (mechanical, usability, etc.). Also it may be better to ask if they ever had to send their scope in for service...

Rifle Scopes Poll - Scopes you have used and scopes you have broken.

Please read before answering the poll: Purpose To get an idea what scopes people own and whether they've been reliable. Please choose your answer based on your most used scope brand. You can select whether you've used the scope without problems, or you use the scope and have had problems...

    Rifle Scopes Glass clarity

Glass quality is only one consideration. A big one for a riflescope is durability and repeatability of the adjustments. I have seen more high-end glass scopes go down than a supposedly inferior glass NightForce for instance. So when looking scopes, do some searching around for people reporting...

Copper removal - is it really required?

I wrote that review. I will state that I've never cleaned the copper out of any of my rifles. They all shoot just as fine as the day they were bought. For instance, I have an AIAW with almost 2500 rounds and it shoots under 0.3MOA still. I run borescopes down them from time to time and if there...

Training Courses Magpul Dynamics Precision Rifle I Course Review

You will learn a lot. Just listen to what Caylen has to say and ask questions. He will answer them all. As for equipment, I have opinions based on my experiences in these kinds of courses and also teaching marksmanship courses to others. Basically it boils down to this: Keep it simple. The...

Training Courses Magpul Dynamics Precision Rifle I Course Review

Prone is great and I've done a lot of it. But as a civilian I see the limits even in situations like hunting where getting prone is frequently not possible or desirable due to the terrain or shot options. In this course Caylen also pointed out the limits for military and police as well. At the...

    TRG 22 Bolt Problem

Can you tell if the trigger group is dragging on the bolt? Can you drop the trigger group and see if the bolt runs smoothly? That will isolate the bolt from the trigger group at least in terms of next steps. Also inspect the lug area on the bolt and breach to ensure nothing is causing an issue...

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

I was going to ask them the same question. That way I get the new trigger shoe (which I am now told is Delrin or similar synthetic material?) but get to keep the AW chassis with spigot mount which I prefer.

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

Looks like the TRG 2013 updates took care of some of the issues I pointed out in my review: http://www.sako.fi/sakotrg_upgrade.php - Improved trigger group. - Better ejection on the TRG-42 model. - Bolt handle is reportedly now more robust. - Bolt release is now more robust. These...

    Sako Trg 2013 upgrades

Glad to see they re-engineered the trigger group. The existing one is nice, but I think has some fragile aspects to it. I am looking forward to seeing what they changed. I like the double ejector idea and a stronger bolt retention lever/bolt handle is also great.

Day 3 Today was denoted by one thing: Fog. Visibility was about 150 yards this morning. Here is the 100-yard range at 0800: Let's just say this isn't optimal long-range rifle weather. With that in mind, Caylen took us inside to do class instruction hoping to buy some time for the fog to...
