    Sako TRG / TRG-S M995 Thread **Sticky??**

    Check your pms. Thanks.

    New Sako Trg 22/42 A1

It looks like the new Sako TRG has a folding stock to get caught on your gear and everything else when walking in the bush. It also features a freezing cold metal foreend you can't carry without gloves and no spigot to use the awesome TRG bipod. To top it off, it is 2 lbs. heavier than the old...

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

You can't go wrong with a TRG. I have done 5 shot one hole groups in 338LM with my TRG-42. It's at least as accurate as my TRG-22, and perhaps even slightly better. And yeah, I think the TRG green color is awesome. I should paint my house that color.

    Sako TRG / TRG-S M995 Thread **Sticky??**

The TRG-S (M995) is the same action as the TRG-42. The TRG-42 bolt fits in the TRG-S and the TRG-S bolt fits in the TRG-42. The TRG-22 is short action so the bolt won't fit in either the TRG-S or TRG-42. The only difference I see between my TRG-S in 6.5x55 and TRG-42 in 338LM action is that the...

Accuracy International AIAW vs. Sako TRG-22 - My Experience with Both

Since I wrote this thread I still own both rifles. However I got tired of the weight of the AIAW and switched to the TRG with a carbon fiber barrel to .260 caliber. The TRG was always lighter than the AI, but the new barrel took about 2lbs. off the rifle and made it more manageable to carry in...

    Sako TRG 22 Muzzle brake

Owning a TRG22 and 42, the muzzle brakes are the same. I interchange them and the hole in the brake is bored out to work with the .338 which means it's fine for smaller calibers. I also run it when I swap barrels to 260 which is pretty close to the 6.5 in recoil. Honestly, you'd have a hard...

    Muzzle brake considerations

I wouldn't use a muzzle brake on a child's rifle. The more aggressive ones make so much noise at the shooter it is unlikely any kind of doubled up hearing protection can make them safe levels even when used properly. I can't imagine a child keeping that gear in place correctly. The more...

DTA vs. Accuracy International Rifle Comparison

I have a basic rule about hunting now after a couple incidents: When I'm in the hunting area, the rifle is in my hands where it can be used quickly. I just never know when I can come across the head of a lifetime by surprise and I don't want the rifle tied up to the pack or on a sling bumbling...

DTA vs. Accuracy International Rifle Comparison

DTA vs. AIAW I picked up a DTA with .308, .260 and .338 conversions and have extensive time on an AIAW and AWSM in .308 and .338 respectively. My AIAW would be comparable to the new AT without the rapid change barrel option. After shooting the DTA for almost two years along with an AIAW that I...

.338LM, Modular Rifle or Dedicated? Pros/Cons?

With 338 swapping calibers is very time consuming and expensive. I think it's best to just have a 338 setup for a load and ready to go for long range to eliminate all variables. I tried the rapid caliber switch rifle idea and I ended up regressing in accuracy. There's always swapping stuff...

    Sling for positional hunting

The Armageddon gear sling is much lighter than most tactical slings. The web material is lighter, but more than enough for a sling durability. I use it on my heavier rifles/AR15 and like it. I also use the Mountain Shooter Sling which is a very simple loop sling that weighs about 4ozs. and...

338 Lapua: The Worst Choice for a Precision Rifle

Just for comparison at 900 yards: 285 Hornady ELD-X 338s @2750fps (about what my TRG shoots it): 217" drop 42" wind @ 10MPH My friend has a 6.5x55 that is shooting the 143 Hornady ELD-X @3000 fps: 195" drop 48" wind @ 10MPH That's 6" of wind advantage with the 338 you have more drop and a...

338 Lapua: The Worst Choice for a Precision Rifle

I shoot a lot of 338LM. It's good for targets 1000+ yards. Inside that range, I don't think most people will be happy with it. The recoil is not bad, but it takes longer for the rifle to settle and inside of 600 yards it can be harder to spot your impacts or splash if you are not familiar with...

AI large firing pin and 260 vs. 6.5 CM?

I have an AW that will consistently pierce primers with the 260 loads at any kind of useful velocity (above 2750fps). This is a large primer case. Other people never have a problem which is where the debate comes in. I use Bartlein barrels from AI and they will always blow primers. Adjusting the...

Ai at small vs large firing pins

Get the small firing pin. I have an AIAW and it will only shoot .308. Every time I tried to get it to run with my 260 barrels it will pierce primers at any kind of useful velocity. It needs to be bushed down to a smaller diameter to run with these higher pressure calibers. The 260 is a large...

    Replacement barrels for Sako Trg22

I own an AIAW. It's a good gun, but it's heavy. The TRG is lighter and I prefer the stock ergonomics and trigger. The trg bipod is also the best I've used on any rifle. I can use my TRG hunting. I used my AW once, and never again wanted to carry it for any distance. As for barrel swaps...

Rifle Scopes Sunshade vs No Sunshade

They can boost contrast by keeping off-axis light from entering the scope. This is why amateur astronomers use a similar kind of shield around their schmidt cassegrain telescopes. You may also consider masking off the outside of the sunshade and then spray painting the interior flat black to cut...

    Safe Recommendations

I have not seen a Sturdy safe in person, but looking at their website they look like they also could be an option to the Amsec BF series safes. They hit the major points about lots of steel and door construction. I would definitely pay for the heavier steel upgrade in their models though if you...

    Replacement barrels for Sako Trg22

It cut a lot of weight off the rifle. With a Leupold Mk6 scope it's now 10.5lbs total without bipod. I feared changing the TRG barrel which shoots so well, but the new barrel, as discussed, I think is more accurate in 260 than the factory barrel was in 308. And the factory barrel was no slouch...

    Replacement barrels for Sako Trg22

I rebarreled mine with a Hardy Carbon in 260. It shoots better than the factory barrel. I torque it to 100ft.lbs and I can swap it when I want with the 308 barrel. The carbon barrel took almost 1.5lbs of weight from the gun. A 308 version of the barrel would last a LONG time. The only drawback...
