    338 Lapua Ackley Improved Loads.

i didn’t see any pressure signs at 102. Starting to see a bit flatter primers at 105.5 but nothing concerning. Bolt lift is normal. I’m on reload #4 with this lot of brass and the pockets are still good. J

    338 Lapua Ackley Improved Loads.

Just finished some load development. 300g Berger OTMs seem to be working a bit better than A-tips. Only a four shot group but there’s obviously a node. 105.5G RL33. 2911, 2909, 2916, 2908. Max 2916 Min 2909. AVG 2911 SD 3.4

    338 Lapua Ackley Improved Loads.

While doing some development for the AI this week I did a quick weight consistency comparison between the .338 300g A-Tips and the 300g Berger OTMs. I used both a RCBS Load master and a classic beam scale for backup. I weighed 10 random bullets from each group. In summary the A-Tips were all...

338 lapua - case expansion and sticky bolt ?

I know this was years ago for you but I’m having the same issues with it Ackley improved 338 Lapua. Overpressure signs and I am not seating the bullet anywhere close to the lands and I’m going with a very mellow load of 102 grains of RL33 which is the starting point for everyone with an AI

Vihtavuori n570 is just a bit slower burning than RL33; it's a double-based n170. Please communicate with the barrel manufacturer/gunsmith/source of this rifle. You're taking some unnecessary risks that could result in a most unpleasant manner--to you and/or someone else. Everyone responding...

Anyone have 1 lb of N170 powder

Was curious if anyone had a jug of N170 powder. I have some on order and it’s not impossible to find but leaving on a bear hunt in one week and need to do some load testing, switching from RL 33. Willing to pay but I also have a 8lb jug of each H1000 for trade? Much appreciated!

You should get that rifle to a good shop with even better measuring equipment. Something is very wrong here. One idea from an old timer was there could be a ring of carbon buildup around the neck that causes overpressure. He also asked me about my RL 33 powder, he has witnessed himself and...

    338 Lapua Ackley Improved Loads.

You may want to DOUBLE CHECK THE SCALE YOU'RE USING. Also get out the magnfying glass and go over your bushing imprintation; is it really 364? Also; do your reloads chamber easily? And maybe; are you using 107 gn RL33 to fireform cases? I just tested a .366 bushing and the pressure signs...

    Here’s what I got today, with heavier bolt lift and light extraction marks with both loads: Day 3: seating depth 2.985 102.9 - 2868, 2872, 2861, 2867, 2858, 2875 Average 2866, SD 6.4. ES 17 102.5 - 2853, 2830, 2840, 2858. Average 2845. SD 12.6. ES. 28

I guess I could clean the throat extra good any recommendations? I’ve heard different stuff like fitz polish on throats after 200 rounds. Although I’m at 130 now

Yep, Lapua brass. And when I measure r a loaded round it’s .366 which means my .364 bushing should work according to Redding‘s instructions of picking the right bushing.

Indoor range temperature around 68°. Throat is definitely not dirty I took 60 rounds to break in the barrel and remove copper after every round for the first 20 rounds. The barrel is now fouling within 1 to 2 rounds which is the way it should be with a properly broke in barrel. The only thing I...

    338 Lapua Ackley Improved Loads.

Question for all. I’m getting slightly heavy bolt lift and really light extraction marks with 102+g of our RL 33. Again this is a Lapua improved with a 40° shoulder. Nothing is done to the throat, loading at 5 thou off the lands which puts me at 2.985” base to ogive. It’s giving me right around...

    338 Lapua Ackley Improved Loads.

No, I’m using 99 grains to fire form brass I’m using 107 grains in twice fired brass. I think it’s an issue of the monolithic bullets not conforming to the barrel like Copper jacketed bullets

Going with 300 grain Hornaday Atips. Anyone have any suggestions for starting load? Again, AI with 40° shoulder.

BCX. On another note. During low development I am seeing pressure signs (heavy boatlift and light extractor marks) with 107g of RL 33. I’m shooting 275 grain cutting edge lasers. Again this is with a 40° shoulder, bore Ryder through, and a 26 inch barrel. I figured I wouldn’t see you see...

    338 Lapua Ackley Improved Loads.

Problem solved. I just rand the Body die by hand over sand paper and removed about 10 Thou and then removed 3-4 thou from the top of the shell holder. Thanks guys!

    338 Lapua Ackley Improved Loads.

I appreciate your guys’ feedback and knowledge. As of now, unless there’s another option I’m going to remove 20 thou from the bottom of the die.

Well took too much off the holder and the edge holding the case broke off leaving the case in the die, it was easy to remove. But I found another shell holder luckily. I'm thinking of finding a machine shop that will remove 20 thou off the die before screwing this shell holder up. Do you...
