Getting close to bolt action purchase. Need help plz! 260, 6.5, .308??? Type of rifle?

Elfster: I am quite new but had been doing a ton of research into my new rifle purchase. I considered everything from the SSG 3000, a remington, savage, you name it. I wanted a rifle that I didn't need to modify and already had most of the features I wanted. A heavy barrel, a great adjustable...

Pitfalls of Buying Tikka vs. Remington

Oh, and if anyone is looking for a Tikka Sporter in 260 with a 24" bbl, there is one available at Able's Ammo in Huntsville, Texas. Not an easy rifle to find.

Pitfalls of Buying Tikka vs. Remington

Update... After a LOT of consideration, today I bought a Tikka Sporter .308 with a 24" bbl. I just decided that it makes more sense for a beginner to spend less on ammo and concentrate on shooting more and fundamentals. The learning curve and the cost was going to be just too steep to reload...

Training Courses Marksmanship Lessons in Austin, TX?

I hope this is the best place to list this. I am new to shooting and would like to start with a solid foundation. Could someone recommend a really good instructor or place to get basic marksmanship lessons? Thanks for your help.

Rifle Scopes Scope for Tikka Sporter .260, help appreicated!

I really am leaning toward the Bushnell 3-21x G2DMR. I like that reticle a lot. Not busy but lots of options. I was curious to see if anyone spoke up about build issues or service problems with them. But every company has some issues. Cobra: Let me know how your Sporter .260 shoots. I'm sure...

Rifle Scopes Scope for Tikka Sporter .260, help appreicated!

I already mentioned this to you Joop, but I thought it would be good to mention here. $500 bucks more for zero stop on the Bushnell 3-21 G2DMR? Seems excessive. Any thoughts? I like the price of the non-zero stop model.

Rifle Scopes Scope for Tikka Sporter .260, help appreicated!

Bushnell doesn't even list the G2DMR on their website under the 6-24, but I found it on OpticsPlanet. I do really like the 3x magnification for quick target acquisition in hunting situations. I'm sure 6x would be fine but 3-21 seems perfect.

Rifle Scopes Scope for Tikka Sporter .260, help appreicated!

I haven't heard anything about the SWFA variable power scopes. I've seen ads for those. I'll have to check that out. Lot of info on the Bushnells. I have to say I hesitate to buy Bushnell. I know they purchased B&L but I have no idea about the quality of the older B&L scopes either. I'm sure...

Rifle Scopes Scope for Tikka Sporter .260, help appreicated!

I may be confused... I saw this post on the hide about the 6-24 getting the G2DMR. Did this not happen? New Reticle for Bushnell Elite Tactical 6-24 X 50mm Ahhh, I just noticed the note below it saying that must have been a mistake.

Rifle Scopes Scope for Tikka Sporter .260, help appreicated!

I have a Tikka Sporter .260, 24" barrel on the way. I need to get a scope for it and could use some help. My purpose for the equipment will be 90% range work and 10% hunting. So getting the 10x would be limiting though I think I could live with it for this season. One other thing... My eyes are...

Pitfalls of Buying Tikka vs. Remington

Thanks again for the help. One the Sporter, I notice two holes on the bottom of the stock under the cheekpiece. Can you mount a monopod using one of those? I didn't notice that when I checked it out in the store. I should get the rifle next week.

Pitfalls of Buying Tikka vs. Remington

I agree. I have to say I like that stock better than most. I'm going to need to get a few other things of course. Any recommendations on a specific brand for these?... 1. Bipod adaptor and Bipod 2. Base and Rings 3. Biathlon type sling 4. Cleaning Kit

Pitfalls of Buying Tikka vs. Remington

Rancilio: It's a tough call and there were a lot of reasons to go with .308. But .260 is just a great fit for my intended purpose as is the rifle and I couldn't resist. However, that will be a bit heavy for hunting for me, and I may get a lightweight rifle for that later. I may look at getting...

Pitfalls of Buying Tikka vs. Remington

I was also wondering if there were any upgrades to that model in the last two years. I doubt it but good to know. Just under $1400.

Pitfalls of Buying Tikka vs. Remington

pulling the trigger tomorrow. Found it in a shop in a small Texas town. They've had it for 2 years. Can anyone see any reason why that would be a problem?

Pitfalls of Buying Tikka vs. Remington

Diego-ted: I like the stock. I'm just not crazy about the finish (no pun intended). I'm only considering modifying the stock later. Wow, that looks great. 30" barrel? Looks huge. Thanks everyone. Great support on this forum. It's rough being new and having to ask dumb questions!
