Advanced Marksmanship How do you calculate wind correction without a ballistic calculator?

If you combo the Ultimate sniper book with the Ultimate sniper Choate stock, your golden! Sorry, guess I have to admit I have a choate on my 338. It really is a pretty solid stock. But the Ultimate Sniper still sounded good! And yes...I took a sanding disk to the "ultimate sniper" on my choate...

Northwest Precision Steel Series Challenge ( south spokane Washington)shoot to 1250yds

Well the goatee shows a little red left. But I keep the dome buzzed to hide the red and the grey! Anyways, i can't blame my performance on the wind. It was all me. Doug's 700 had that NXS on it and my Falcon has opposite wind directions on the turrets. I knew it, but kept dialing the wrong way...

Northwest Precision Steel Series Challenge ( south spokane Washington)shoot to 1250yds

It's all good. .. just messing with him. Lol. That whole team shot really good, better than most. With shooters like that, your safe to say it's not just the rifle. With those guys shooting out there, future matches will be tough, but a fun challenge. And I know he beat me like a red headed...

Northwest Precision Steel Series Challenge ( south spokane Washington)shoot to 1250yds

Under the circumstances, I'd have to say yes. I'm looking forward to seeing all you guys out there in the spring. Hopefully I'll be shooting better by then! Brian

Advanced Marksmanship How do you calculate wind correction without a ballistic calculator?

I guess this is where you can say "believe the bullet". Like these guys said, print and laminate a standard card with 5 and 10mph full value winds at all yardages you'll be shooting. The rest is just trigger time. A few people have really helped me reading the wind. All I can say it I NEVER hit...

Cold bore shot and the rest, question

6bgraham seems to be spot on. However; your oiled and clean bore may throw it high. Next time out, foul your barrel with at least one or two shots. Then cold bore test for accuracy. Easy way to eliminate one variable.

Northwest Precision Steel Series Challenge ( south spokane Washington)shoot to 1250yds

Thanks for the pics guys! I have a ton of video, mostly of my squad, but got some with Demetrio's squad(Eric too with Doug spotting). I'll get it posted hopefully this weekend. Got to encode the video first. It'll be pretty big files, tried to get peoples whole station shoot at a time(4-6 min...

    Modern Rifles and barrels.

Oh yeah! when I choot dat thing and miss from a filthy bore, I call on Chuck Norris to round house kick the air and the shockwave from his southern cali home knocks my bullet back on target. Thanks Chuck, I owe ya one! Just get out and shoot.

Thanks coby, just wish I used 4350 more. If I still had my 6.5 sweed I would snag it up! I'm a Varget and H1000 fan. Hope you can make the NW Precision shoot in Spokane this weekend. I think Kevin and a few others are making it out. If not, I'll try to make some shoots at UNSC soon. Brian

    Modern Rifles and barrels.

Man, thats a hard call. I use nylon brushes on my lapped barrels. If you polish up chrome or stainless to a mirror finish(2000 wet sand and 20 then 40k jewelers rouge) you can scratch the surface with a wipe from notebook paper. Will Brass or Bronze scratch Chrome? Possibly. But sometimes I want...

Northwest Precision Steel Series Challenge ( south spokane Washington)shoot to 1250yds

Me too! 5 days and counting. Weather forecast changed a bit... no rain or winds, well maybe a little. Looks to be a bit more mellow than last shoot. Maybe we'll get lucky and the winds will pick up a bit! lol.

    Modern Rifles and barrels.

Victory, this is just my take on it. With a lapped barrel, it is smooth with no rough surfaces to "sand off" copper jacket and trap carbon. As you extensively clean a factory barrel, your keeping all the crap out of the deep machining scratches as each bullet slowly works out most of the rough...

    Modern Rifles and barrels.

I shoot 10 shots, quick two patch clean, 25 shots clean, then run 100+ at matches in between cleaning. I just cleaned my 338 select match Shilen barrel after 115 rds, two patches and it was spotless. Clean copper after around 250-300. Pretty simple, thats all I do and she shoots great. Perfect...

    comparisons ballistic programs

Lowlight is dead on as usual. lol. I've checked out his videos and they have really helped me. Thanks Lowlight! Meanwhile, back on the ranch... I'm new to the game as well. The guys I have shot with all adjusted on site as necessary. I followed suit and only used my range card as a reference...

Tonight I dropped by Sportsmans Warehouse and picked up a box of my 300 OTM's getting ready for the NW Precision match next weekend. To my surprise, there was a bonus sticker in the box this time! Earlier today, I told my co-worker "Berger bullets just can't get any better". Well, they just did...

That's a topic not too many people are aware of. But they should be. Everything including Hughes has been leading up to what we are up against today. Anyways, something about the NRA just doesn't feel right lately.

Right on! He's a beauty. That's awesome, really happy for ya! Nothing like that on the wet side of our state. Should put a dent in the freezer. See ya in a couple weeks. Brian EDIT... match in 12 days, not a couple weeks! I'll take Earl and Dana as spotter and score keeper again. good people!

From what I've heard, the NRA isn't helping much. This was stated in the last issue of WAC Newsletter. Its to the point it is just about all up to us little guys to spread the word. And I agree, The NRA sure isn't looking good to Washington residents right now. It seems like all I ever get in...
