Replies to "Thank you for your service."

"You're welcome, Please Vote Responsibly." is my go-to. It has no backhanded bitter spike to it, and gets my point across rather clearly. The only time I have let anybody buy me stuff because I was a vet was when me and my buddies met a group of retired NYPD at Oktoberfest in 2008. We...

    Organizations that help Vets

In my area, I've got a ton of veteran support organizations. It's really all about looking in the right place. Alaska Healing Hearts came and supported a 5K fun run my SVO did a while back, and they do a ton of hunts at a private lodge for moose, brown bear, etc. Almost forgot to mention, the...

    UAA Vet/PD/Trooper/Fire/EMS Art Gallery

For you past and present public service guys and gals in the Anchorage Area. This is for a good cause, and can help amateur artists get their names out there. UAA Athletics is obligating me to put together a "selection committee", but it'll be me and a few other folks who hate the idea of...

    Hunting & Fishing Caribou Hunt?

I will definitely have to ask about thor's pack then. I've got an ALICE ruck, but the dang thing gets soaked when it rides on the bow. I rig it up front by stuffing all of my stuff into a 65 liter hydrobag, running the shoulder straps around it, and lashing the 65L bag to the boat with some...

    Hunting & Fishing Caribou Hunt?

Oh yeah, Sheri just built me an Explorer with those neat-o internal compartments about two months ago. took it on a little trip down the placer river from the spencer trailhead a few weeks back and had an absolute blast dodging the submerged trees and territorial herring gulls...

Anyone used 168 gr Hornady Match BTHPs in their '03?

excellent. I bought a ton of Varget in October of 2012, and aside from Unique, it is the only powder I have because of what happened. I've had a pile of 30/06 brass just sitting around waiting for me to get the time and the powder. Of course, now the only bullets in stock in AK are 220gr...

    Hunting & Fishing Caribou Hunt?

Like everybody said prior, Rifle hunting the Haul road sucks. 45.308 and several others had a nice discussion about it last summer, if you want to look it up. to summarize: Tundra sucks dragging stuff on tundra sucks five miles on tundra dragging stuff sucks. if I ever do a haul road hunt...

    "POLAR VORTEX"! Really?!!!!

I think you misconstrued so I'll reiterate. Forgive me if this sounds condescending. The sun is constantly adding energy (note that I did not mention such a violation of the laws of physics as creation of energy) to the system (Earth). Normally, a lot of the energy added by the sun is...

    MXT135 Anti Sniper Rifle

there's been a stink about this thing since I was in middle school. still hasn't come out because they can't figure out a way to make it durable enough to give to a dumb private.

    "POLAR VORTEX"! Really?!!!!

yep, please refer to the big post above this one. (summation: adding energy to a system makes it more unstable, and prone to larger variance. the term 'warming' is not very accurate)

    "POLAR VORTEX"! Really?!!!!

don't worry, the topic is still valid, even if some morons have made it political. Think of it this way: how many calories of energy did it take to change the planet's temperature that much? that's a HUGE amount of energy, and first off, we really should be pretty impressed with ourselves...

    "POLAR VORTEX"! Really?!!!!

FYI: anybody that questions this graph is free to come and check out my glaciers, and listen to my story about last year's late caribou migration

    "POLAR VORTEX"! Really?!!!!

Funny thing- the Polar vortex dip was used in the 70's as an example of "Global Cooling"

    M60 vs M240 vs M249

Feb 2011. Just talked with one of my buddies from the sniper platoon, in 07-08 and 09-10 their MTOE was XM-110s (the Army version of the AR-10), The Semiauto Barrets, with some bolt-action 7.62x51.

PTSD sufferers helped by farm work

Me and a few of my friends have been looking at farming since we all got out of the Army, and all we hear is that there is no way in hell we can get a farm loan. The thought's nice and all, but when there is literally no way that I can afford to buy a farm without some kind of loan, and no...

    M60 vs M240 vs M249

The guys in my Squadron's sniper platoon were rolling with 7.62x51 rifles. and as for the M2 and accuracy... when you can rip a truck apart at 1700 meters, I'd say it's pretty accurate. The M2 is an angry, loud, accurate SOB.

Can anyone ever touch your gun?

I just got back, I kid you not, less than 20 minutes ago from Jumping on a 'Grenade' so my buddy could get the hot friend. Pretty much anybody can touch my gun if it means a team victory. Same goes for my rifles and the rest of my toys. This 'warrior' stuff is honestly a bunch of malarkey...

Snake!! I thought these little bitches sleep in the winter

wow. the sticky trap boxes have instructions on how to get things off the trap (for those hippies that don't want to hurt the blasted mice). me and the buddies used to pull the mice off the trap, stuff em in a Gatorade bottle.... stuff a bunch of cheese charges into a 120MM tootsie roll, put...
