Turn beeping off on RCBS Chargemaster??????

Re: Turn beeping off on RCBS Chargemaster?????? When I saw this thread, I thought, why would you want to turn off the beep. After watching that youtube video, I did not realize how loud it was. Also, I was happy with the speed of my Chargemaster, until I saw the video. That was faster than I...

Anybody got a 6.5 Lapua Redding S Type FL die?

Re: Anybody got a 6.5 Lapua Redding S Type FL die? Although obvious, I find it hard to believe that the die slip past QC. I am doing the first round of resizing new brass. When setting the die up, I had to use more than normal force to resize the body. I never could get it to bump back the...

Anybody got a 6.5 Lapua Redding S Type FL die?

I posted a few weeks ago about not being able to reconcile the OD of my 6.5 Lapua brass after resizing using a 288 bushing. The OD was coming out way smaller than the bushing. I got a 290 bushing, and the neck size came out .278. I took out the bushing and the neck size came out .278. So, the...

    What is bushing size?

Re: What is bushing size? I am going ahead and getting the pin gauges in anticipation of Santa bringing a lathe and mill. Since I have a combo gunsmith\reloading room, I will only need one set.

    What is bushing size?

Re: What is bushing size? Probably am over analyzing. Just remeasured loaded case neck diameter, and its .2895. I bought 3 bushings at .288, .287, and .286 in the anticipation of neck turning. The neck walls are consistent at .0125, so I am not going to neck turn. Without a doubt the .288...

    What is bushing size?

Re: What is bushing size? I have always understood that the bushing used should be .001 less than the bullet caliber. So, per your calculation, the adjustment might already be figured in??? I was off .004 from the marked size. might have been off .0005 off on the wall thickness, but that...

    What is bushing size?

Re: What is bushing size? Loaded OD is .291. Wall thickness is .014. Bullet caliber .264. How does that help reconcile the measured ID of a bushing to what it is marked?

    What is bushing size?

I have a Redding .288 marked bushing. The OD is .500 The with of the bushing wall is .108. To find the ID - multiply the wall thickness by 2, and subtract that from the OD. You get .284. Why is a bushing with an ID of .284 marked .288?

    BC is King for 6.5x47?

Re: BC is King for 6.5x47? Good point regarding wind. Verticle drop is consistent and predicable, which you get with the light bullet. Wind dispersion is difficult to predict, so compensate with the more wind resistant bullet. A few inches off of wind compensation is difference in hearing a...

    BC is King for 6.5x47?

This week I posted a question about powder density, and “BC is King” debate came up about my bullet weight choice. I agree that BC is king, but after reading Applied Ballistics For Long Range Shooting I decided to do an analysis of my bullet weight options using the Litz ballistic software...

    powder densities

Re: powder densities FYI, Hodgdon got back with me. On the high end, the density in grams\litre H4530 960 IMR4530 982 Which explains why I have trouble with 40gr of IMR4350 when other are working with 41gr of H4350.

    chrony questions

Re: chrony questions I took my Chrony out this past weekend and it did not work. It was early in the morning and cloudy. This happens all the time. If its too cloudy or direct sun at a low angle it will not work. Which this was fine when my range was my back porch and not an hour drive away...

    powder densities

Re: powder densities Because I will shoot over 600 yds, and that BC is King is why I am testing the 142's. But that is a topic for a future thread. I am going with the H4350, and a long drop tube. Thinking 41gr will still be compressed. yes, the IMR4350 is dark, and long extruded pellets...

    powder densities

Re: powder densities I assumed it would be tough to get 2800 out a 22 inch barrel, pushing a 142gr bullet, and was willing to experiment with some faster burning powders. H4350 is probably the safe call, and will get me low ES, which after all is the goal. Not sure if loosing almost 300fps...

    powder densities

Re: powder densities I am tampering down the charge, and it seems to help, but very time consuming and you dont get consistent results. I think a drop tube will help, if I have small compression issues. But I still would like to predcict the volume to help me decide which powder to spend time...

    powder densities

I would like to calculate the volume of certain weights of various powders. Is there a chart of powder densities? I am developing a load for a 6.5x47 (AR). H4350 seems very popular. I had IMR 4350 on hand, so I decided to use that to fire form the 100 pieces of new brass. 41gr seems to be a...

    Lapua new brass runout

Re: Lapua new brass runout Graphite? Sometimes the powder sticks to the neck lube. Maybe graphite would stop that. How to you apply, and where do you get it.
