    Runout tolerances

Re: Runout tolerances .002 does seem to be a good tolerance. I measured the neck on an unfired Nosler case - .001. Ran it thru the Lee resizing die, and the runout was .004. So, it must be the die. Measured the decapping pin in several places, and no runout. The shell holder seemed to be...

    Runout tolerances

I had started a thread about neck turning, but appears I need to know more about run out. I just got a Sinclair concentricity gauge to assist in neck turning procedures. Appears my Hornady emptied reloads sometimes have runout of .004. Some have .002. I found a loaded hornady that had not been...

    Started neck turning

Re: Started neck turning Interesting about the cause of the runout. I have some virgin nosler brass in 223 that I will measure. The goal was to turn my 300wm brass. It is a "tight" chamber. My logic is that with consistent neck thickness you would obtain consistent neck tension and that...

    Started neck turning

Got a Sinclair neck turning tool and mandrels for 22 & 30. Ultimate goal is neck turning 300wm. Starting\experimenting with the 223 first. I am I doing this right? Before using neck sizing mandrel and turning neck - neck runout .004, neck thickness .013, OD .247. After neck sizing and turning...

Hand Loading for Long Range 5: inspect & tips

Re: Hand Loading for Long Range 5: inspect & tips Will the higher end seating dies (Redding, Forster) decrease the risk of run out? Also, your artistic ability is plenty good for around here.

Gunsmithing KDF v Defensive Edge muzzle brake

Re: KDF v Defensive Edge muzzle brake that info helps. Another good thing about the KDF is that its not indexed, and that should allow one to take it on and off with having to worry about getting screwed back on the why it was before.

Gunsmithing KDF v Defensive Edge muzzle brake

Going to get a brake for my 300wm. The 2 locally well known smiths install KDF's. They will install others, but is more expensive, and they seem to be experts at the KDF installation. I would prefer the Defensive Edge break. Just from a physics standpoint I would think it reduces more recoil...

    Range Report Ballistic App

Got the Ballistic App for my iPhone. 2 questions regarding the trajectory function - 1) Sight height, I measured my AR from the middle of the bolt to the middle of the scope. Got 3 inches. Is this how its done? 2) Drag Model, I am shooting bergers. Do I need to select G7? I am thinking I need...

Range Report What to think of a 223 in a 20" 1:9 Twist

Re: What to think of a 223 in a 20" 1:9 Twist tag for later reading. I am in the same boat. That is have 20' 1:9 twist. Been shooting 69smk's fine. Want to go long range, so I got 77smk and 75bergers. Hope its not a waste of time and money.

    Berger bullets

What's the diff between Berger VLD and the Match Target BT. I am looking at their web site, and see some BC difference. In some cases the BC is better in the Match Target BT. I am selecting a bullet for a 300wm to use for long range precision.

    how to get started

Re: how to get started I found Rifles Only. Exactly what I am looking for, and only a 3 hr drive. If I can get my act togather, I will do the mid dec Snipers Hide class. Now, which gun? I have a custom 300wm (700rem)that I intended to use at 1000 yds. But it kicks like a mule. I cant see...

    how to get started

Brand new to Snipers Hide. I just moved to Austin, TX from MS. Looking to improve my long range marksmans skills, and a competitive venue. The NRA hi-power and benchrest matches dont offer what I am looking for. 3 gun looks like fun, but too much close in shooting, and not the ultimate goal. I...
