Why are basic bolt guns so hard to find?

The market has spoken and hardly anyone is buying them... So why would someone manufacture them if the demand is so low? Either find a vintage BDL varmint, build one off a 700 action (a SPS Varmint would be a good action/barrel donor with a replacement wood stock), or get a Sako/Tikka. I...

Converting a mid length 16" to rifle length 18"

That is a problem with the barrel, not necessarily an intrinsic problem with the 18" rifle gas setup

Fast burning, large grain powder like Trail Boss

Great find, looks like a 5744 clone...

Fast burning, large grain powder like Trail Boss

Actually most of these suggestions are not very good. A powder like IMR 4227, AA 1680, etc is completely wrong for a low case fill application IE subsonic in 308 Win. AA5744 is pretty much unobtainable. There are several other threads about this, as well as data in "subsonic loads" sticky. A...

Converting a mid length 16" to rifle length 18"

Maybe, maybe not. Shoot it and see. Too many variables to assess. I have one large frame AR that ran like crap without being tamed with an AGB. Another one was a Criterion 16" rifle gas. That ran like a sewing machine right out of the box with no issues. Didn't even use a fancy heavy buffer.

Converting a mid length 16" to rifle length 18"

You don't necessarily need an adjustable gas block with a suppressor. A pleasant side effect of your switch to an 18" rifle gas is they tend to run smoother and be much less prone to overgassing than shorter barrels/gas systems. I shot out an 18" rifle gas barrel (over 9.5k rounds) with almost...

AR10 6.5 Creedmoor problems.... Need Help Bad

It may or may not be possible to salvage a functional rifle from your collection of parts, even if you try the gas block, buffer, etc tricks to try and get it to run. Sometimes there can be tolerance stacking (this means still in-spec!) and function issues even with high quality parts (JP...

Night Vision Basic Thermal Clip ON Q's.

The FOV and menu locations are different for every clipon. I have experience with the SNIPE-IR, Clip XELR, and PoT products. All would be "optimized" in terms of resolution, ideal base scope mag, and maximal minimum usable mag with different optics. The ideal optic for the vast majority of...

    308 DMR optics

There are lots of good options that have been posted here. I have some decent optics including a Schmidt 3-20 and the XTR 3 in 3-18 is a pretty good optic for the $$$...

PRI Mk 12 Mod 0 gen III: how gassy with a flow-through suppressor?

An appropriately gassed 18" rifle gas barrel generally is about the LEAST gassy configuration for a suppressed AR. They tend to tolerate a suppression even without fancy tuning tricks. I shot out an 18" MK12 barrel with over 9k rounds and never had a single malfunction, with the majority being...

22 Creedmoor and 60 grain VMax..

I would consider H4350. The burn rate is close to ideal for this bullet weight. I have seen 3600 with 64 grain bullets with moderate loads and didn't see the need to push it further. If you throat is rough, and you have a fast twist barrel, you may very well have exploding bullet syndrome of...

Griffin Sportsman UL HD is another option if you wanted to go all steel... But about 2.5 oz heavier than the ultralight Ti designs here

    Remington M700 6.5 Creedmore opinions.

It may or may not shoot as you hope. Factory Remington barrels are a crap shoot in terms of quality. Just because an auction says a bright bore doesn't mean it isn't shot out. Also I am not sure what factory Rem 700 model came with a threaded 24" barrel and a laminate stock. It may be an...

Looking for data 300grn 44 slow slow slow

This is good advice. You want a fluffy, fast burning powder. The VV pistol powders that are extruded also work pretty well too. While not in 44 Mag, I have experimented with a variety of powders in this capacity including N340, Red Dot, Bullseye, etc and all have worked fine in 45 Colt and 300...

What is a good receiver set to do an AR10 build with?

Lots of great options... If you wanted to spend some scratch could always do a SR-25 lower/MWS upper. Despite being different brands they mate almost 100% and look factory. That being said I screwed together a Palmetto PA-10 and the receivers themselves were of perfectly adequate quality.

    22 creedmoor

My understanding of N555 is that it is a similar but slightly slower burn rate to H4350, which should be perfect for lighter bullets. If it over-pressures before max with lighter bullets that would seem to indicate to me that it is not optimal for heavier bullets. N560 seemed absolutely...

    22 creedmoor

An update for some N555, N560, N565, Superformance, and Magnum loads. I did a combination of ladders as well as some 3 shot groups. Of note cratering is not very reliable for pressure as I have a stock Rem 700 action with a non-bushed firing pin. The OAL was 2.338 for 64 BSB (Nosler 64 bonded)...

    Most accurate mk12 barrel?

I wanted to provide a little bit of feedback regarding the Centurion barrels. I recently had put together an upper with a Centurion MK12 barrel with a BCM thermofit upper. Right out the box the barrel shoots very well. Without really any load development, it shot no worse than 1 MOA 5 shot...

    22 creedmoor

I wouldn't use LVR or CFE223. They are a little bit too fast of burn rate. The N550/555 or H4350/RL16 class burn rate will maximize your velocity even with bullets in the 60-69 weight grain class. I do have some N555 but haven't tried it yet under the Nosler 64's. I will likely give this a try...

Suppressor causing thin barrel to droop for first round - which replacement barrel?

That amount of shift is well beyond what is typically observed with screwing a can on even a thin barrel, especially given it is only for the first shot. I also have to ask the obvious other questions. Is the mount/suppressor actually concentric to the bore? Is the barrel nut tight? What...
