Why did Marines go from M70 Win to M700 Rem?

Blame Weird One for digging up this thread. But since beating dead horses is so much fun...(Pun) The reason the Marines got dragged Kicking and Cursing into using the 700 is due to one singular factor: Money. The Army finally stopped circlejerking about fighting a "European land war"...

Barrel Break In and Cleaning Questions

300Whinny wrote: *I am getting a new barrel for my 300wm and Im doing my research on barrel break in because I want to do this one the right way. Call me crazy but it makes perfect sense to me to leave the copper in the bore because when you think about it the first thing you do at the range...

    Catastrophic Failure

First I'm glad you're going to keep all your original equipment. Eyes & Ears: Always. Your chamber wasn't machined correctly. Either you got a Norma mag or a WSM chambering. After looking at your pictures I cant see the belt relief in the chamber wall so I'm guessing your barrel was chambered...

    Bell and Carlson Stock Upgrade

Rockstar2f5 posted: *Bell and Carlson Stock Upgrade* *I just replaced my R700 AAC .308 Hogue overmold stock with a Bell and Carlson Varmint/Tactical Medalist stock. I have not shot with the new stock yet. Do I have to bed it? Right now I just have it bolted in like normal. Will it shoot bad if...

    How to learn precision shooting?

What did you use to paint your rifle?

Hadn't really thought about doing something like this in camo. this gives me some ideas to kick around until I get my stock cleaned up enough for painting.

    How to learn precision shooting?

If you want to learn the basics, you REALLY need to learn how to keep a log book. During different range sessions, focus on one area of shooting fundamentals, breathing, trigger squeeze, flinching, body position, ect. Keep detailed and honest notes of what the results were. I've found that...

A Few Armalite AR-10 Build Questions:

Armalite now makes a new lower that they've tweaked to be compatible with Magpul mags. Save the money and just get a set of DPMS receivers. they've plenty good enough for what you want to do. DON'T try finish the barrel yourself. UNLESS you're already doing it professionally. Save yourself the...

Building a precision AR-15: Questions about barrel, bolt, twist, etc...

Different companies all tweak the specs on their chamber reamers. Google " 5.56 chamber reamers" and you'll run across a chart that shows who makes what. With a gas gun things have to be looser so parts can move around, handloading is really the key to getting under 1 moa. Also, look into the...

    JP Enterprises in 6.5mm Creedmoor...LOADS?

They still haven't ironed out all the kinks in the Creedmoor like they have in the 260. That being said you could try slowing down to 2750-2800 and see how that works. Max loads are rarely the most accurate and the whole reason for the Creedmoor is to use VLDs due to the 260 shorter neck.

    New AR-15 Build- Barrel suggestions

Midway, Cheaper than dirt, Brownells, Surplus ammo... Google is your friend. Shaw makes a good barrel in 1x8, but there's nothing wrong with 1x7 or 1x9. 223 can be finicky depending on luck of the draw, if you get one that doesn't work for what you need, just get another and sell the first...

What ammo should I be buying?

I've always had good luck with Remington UMC yellow box. That being said, I tested Fed American Eagle brand 223 and it was all over the place, in 308 it was really consistant. The point is, as soon as you can you need to learn how to setup and run a progressive press and start reloading. It's...

Savage now and then AKA why people hate Savage

I measure my rifles based on how close together the holes are downrange. I own 3 Winchesters m-70, 2 Savages (m-12), and one Remington 700. If money were no object I'd build Winchesters. Not surprising, the factory savage barrel is rough as a cob. I replaced it with a McGowen prefit in 260...

F T/R Competition I need some help with bipod attachments

My question is what will you be using your rifle for? I've never heard of the Sierra7, I've heard nothing but praise Atlas. If your just going to use this rifle on the range, go with the Harris and spend the rest on ammo. You have a better selection with Harris as well.
