RCBS precision mic and headspace help

Thanks for the reply. This is pretty much what I did. If you consider the fired cases at 2.5 thou below the 0 mark on the scale as the ZERO starting point, the unfired 168gr FGMM are only .001 smaller. So should I even bump the shoulders at all? The advice you gave is the standard I've seen...

RCBS precision mic and headspace help

I just finished assembling everything I need to start reloading and am working on figuring out shoulder bump/headspace measuring. The rifle is a 700 5R .308 and I've been shooting FGMM 168 and 175 exclusively. I've been using the RCBS precision mic to compare fired vs unfired FGMM cases and have...

    Cleaning with break fluid?

Cleaning with break fluid? Maybe he meant brake cleaner for the action/bolt/etc, which would be like a spray cleaner/degreaser? Seems like that would make a little more sense than brake fluid

18.5" 17 HMR barrel too short?

I only used this rifle early in the season when the trees were still thick so farthest shot was only about 50yds. I've shot it at the range out to 100, and would feel very comfortable taking shots to at least that range. There aren't too many opportunities to stretch it much farther in these...

18.5" 17 HMR barrel too short?

I chopped my cz453 17hmr barrel down to 16.5" and it shoots great. Haven't run it over the chrono to see how much velocity I lost but really don't care either. It handles great, is still accurate as hell, and the squirrels still die just as good :) No supressor btw...

Just received my membership card for Mifflin! I'll definitely be taking a drive out there soon. Are there any gun shops fairly close the range or that i'd pass on the way out there that stock a good supply of ammo, reloading supplies, etc that a prisoner of NY could take advantage of? Any...

    Beginner Reloading

I don't have much to add besides saying that it looks like you put together a nice setup so far. I'm just starting reloading too, and have picked up a lot of the same pieces as you. Things definitely add up quick, but it's going to be fun!

I've been thinking about joining Mifflin too. Seems very affordable even if I only get out there once in a while. Can anyone tell me if the 300,500,1000 yd ranges there are open to use during normal hours or only certain times? Some of the 'longer' ranges I've checked out only shoot on the 500+...

    Remington 700 5R .308 milspec HORRIBLE ACCURACY!!!!!

My 20" 5R will shoot 168 FGMM .5" or less at 100. The 175 FGMM is only slightly worse, and the 7.62 marked FGMM is a little worse than that.

Best AR grip for precision shooting?

    Marine Tex'ed magpul :)

    Stock Texturing

When you have extra marine tex sitting around, you tend to look for things to texture. I've never quite liked how thin the AR grips were so the magpul got a facelift... Taped off: Laid it on thick to beef it up: After the unveiling: Knocked down the sharp points with a file and...

Anybody cut down their CZ 452

I chopped my cz 453 .17hmr barrel down to 16", and re crowned with hand tools from brownells. Shoots as good as before (great), handles better, and looks damn cool. No regrets here :-).

    new guy

I've seen the airsoft AICS/rimfire thing done a few times now, and I think i'm starting to give in to trying it myself. Looks great. Is the airsoft AICS the same size/dimensions as the real stock?

I'm not too far away in Westchester County. Unfortunately I can't help you with land access, but would love to find some as well. I shoot most weekends at a local 200yd range. Welcome to the Hide!
