    I think it is the opposite of what you said. Standard Remington scope base threads are 6-48. Army spec'd them to enlarged 8-40. So its simpler (easier) to open up your GG&G & McCann rails to the larger size. I've done it many times using quality taps by hand.

    The .175" "A" base is the correct hight. Dont forget to add 2 screws, although the Freeland offering is flat bladed screwdriver. The M24 used allen heads.

    Go back one page here, post #1888 is the Freelands website page for their reproduction front sight base with hole spacing measurments. They also sell a reproduction Redfield rear sight base that fits the Remington screw holes. Take-off original issue Redfield bases are scarce and expensive.

    The factory OM describes how to install the mag follower spring after identifying the longer leg by compressing it. But it does not mention the tactile dimple stamped onto that leg.
