    Took the m70 out for one last time before its transformation.

    Had my eye on the Lazeroni thumbhole also, nice stock, went with the Boyd's thumbhole instead, Ditto on Richards Microfit, get ready for a lot of sanding. Boyd's is prefinished.

    I also have the B&C Medalist on the 7-08 SPS and love it! Boyd's laminated gunstocks are also on sale now I picked one up for $99 for the 7mm mag, also got one for the boy's Savage MK II. The pepper laminate looks awesome!! Our rifles will look good duracoated in Flecktarn grey.

    With a 10K budget, you should have no problem, any of the REPUTABLE builders here should help you out. Surgeon, Montana or Defiance have good actions, select barrel and stock of choice, a good trigger cannot be overstated. Planning on competing? Keep it under 12 lbs. Scope? Too many out there...

    Gunsmithing what would cause primer hits like this?

    I quit using CCI primers completely, too many clicks, not enough booms LOL. SeriouslyCCI's were manufactured for the Military SAW and were designed hard on purpose, had too many misfires during IPSC comps, and later with the AR-15. I quit using them altogether.

    7mm-08 for hunting

    The 708 is my favorite cal!! The 308 is effective as a sniper round on men to 1K, If it can kill a man, it can kill a deer. I forget the foot poundage you need, but full penetration of a 3/4" piece of plywood is the magic number, or so I read.the 708 has similar ballistics, use the 140 gr bullets.

    Not being a SA, BUT YOU need to find out what your rifle likes. I knew a guy in Alaska whose groups went to the crapper, his ONLY solution was to tip the rifle muzzle down and to fill it with "shooters choice". And that took care of the problem. Other people clean thoroughly and fire 10-20 shots...

    Variable scope? Turn down the power to 3 or 4X. When I try to shoot tight at close range, I turn the power down, don't know why it helps but it does.

    Temperature affecting groups

    Temp affects POI only. Cold air is more dense hence more resistance. At 800 yards I have a 12" drop at 0 Degrees versus 60 degrees.
