    Official tannerite discussion

Well OK, I know it works well, an did in fact test the mix (about pea size amount) on an anvil w/ a hammer and believe it or not, I couldn't get it to ignite. You are right on the flash powder though now that you mention it. He does have his explosives license as he does hobby pyrotechnics and...

    Official tannerite discussion

So how about Potassium Perchlorate and Aluminum Powder??? 7-1 by weight ratio? A friend of mine that does fireworks gave me that info, and a bit of each and it works well, even with 22 rf. He did caution me about it's safe use (cardboard tube for mixing and taped into a cardboard container...

Gunsmithing M16 Style Extractor cut or M16 Mini extractor?

Go with the small. When using the large extractor, it increases the angle of ejection upward enough to possibly cause ejection problems by hitting your optics w/ the fired brass. I've had to cut the upper portions of the extractor down in some instances to lower the pivot point and ejection...

Gunsmithing Value of very nice wood - Rough Cut Stock for rifle

Looks like there's a lot of weak grain in the wrist section of that one.

    Gunsmithing X-caliber barrels???

I emailed em to let them know...pretty quick reaction. I like the looks of their shop, purposely built it looks like for what their doing. I'm sure they're very serious about it, it'll be interesting to hear some reports on them.

    Gunsmithing X-caliber barrels???

"Our match Grade, the bore must measure within .005" of our standard diameter and does not vary in diameter more than .003" for the entire length of the barrel. Our Premium Match Grade, the bore must measure within .003" of our standard diameter and does not vary in diameter more than .001" for...

    FNH Patrol Bolt Rifle

Is your rifle a 223 Rem? The small bolt face is the only one with a push feed as far as what I've seen so far.....oops, check that thought, looked at the link and looks like they did do some in the controlled push feed. All the SPR's I've handled were all full claw extractors.

New GAP Extreme Hunter in 6.5 SAUM

I've shot a fair # of elk in the past and do tend to go bigger. My favorite so far is the 200gr Accubond out of my 300 RUM...it does a phenominal job, as far as 1180 yards on a mulie several years ago and the bullet entered broadside on the top of the heart, good expansion, of course an exit...

New GAP Extreme Hunter in 6.5 SAUM

So has anyone tried the 127LRX from Barnes? I still can't sell myself on a Berger in 130 or even 140 gr on a full-sized bull elk. I killed a medium bull at 500 yards last year with a 7WSM shooting the 140 Accubond @ 3150 as I was primarily hunting deer. To be honest I though perfomance was on...

Gunsmithing need a gunsmith to bushing a firing pin hole on a Accuracy International, suggestions?

If these bolts are truly that hard, I'd find a local machine shop with a sinker EDM and have them edm a straight pocket. It would then be a simple matter to machine a press or shrink fit plug with the proper size hole, chamfered in the back and fit it in the bolt face. Turn it flush and your...

The Archer and the Arrow - A Discussion

In a nutshell that's how I got into gunsmithing. In my early years when I started hunting deer at age 12 I was given a Rem 870 20ga with a slug barrel. Sighted it in and killed my first deer with it...aimed for the chest and hit it in the ass. Also missed a very nice 8 pt at 100 yards or so...

    Gunsmithing Problems w/ custom rifle

Maybe in a shotgun barrel, certainly not in a HP rifle!

Gunsmithing I Know I'm Gonna Get Hammered ;-)

Just try a small shim between the barrel and the forearm tip to see if that changes something. A business card type thickness or a matchbook. Usually your better off with two small strips (1/8th or so wide) @ 45 degrees in the barrel channel.

Rcbs rock chucker single stage press as good as they say?

Started with the master reloading kit 20+ years ago and I'm still using the rock chucked press, case trimmer, and powder scale that came with the kit. If you are needing to start from scratch I would highly recommend just buying the kit and pick up the dies and shell holders you need.

    Nightforce ATACR question

You might see things shift a hair, but the crosshairs should still point to the same spot on the target. If not, it should be easy enough to see if it makes a difference. Shoot a 5 shot group changing power incrementally for each shot. If it still produces a good group, there's no problem.

    Gunsmithing 6.5 Creadmore

Reminds me of the 6.5 Gendel I built several years ago...missed placing an 'R' in the pantograph and just fired her up and engraved an upper...I kept that receiver for myself and later after building that one a friend wanted it even with the mis-spell...

Gunsmithing New manufacture Clausing Colchester thoughts

We bought a new clausing-colchester in the mid-2000's (6-7??) at our shop and I talked to Clausing about the machine. They admitted they had moved production to China at one time but due to quality issues they were now made in Taiwan. The machine is a good unit, heavy, smooth cutting. Gear box...

Caliber Options: 18" Bolt Action for Hunting

No question, a 6x47 Lapua. Just built a little 19" barreled one on an SPR action and a Win Coyote Outback laminate stock and its very sweet. Very handy, minimal recoil. Should do well for a walk-about rifle for coyote/deer.
