Re: Overheating..Is This Normal?? Clean your barrel real well, then send it out for Croygenic treatment. I sounds like there is stress in the steel and the barrel is warping a tad as it heats up. Under cooler conditions I would guess the barrel doesn't get to the point it starts drifting...- msalm

Gunsmithing Lothar walther barrels???
Re: Lothar walther barrels??? I've used L-W barrels on many AR builds, and without fail every one of them was a 'shooter'. 1/2 MOA being the norm. I'm now using a few Rock Creek OEM button barrels I have lapped after production, and they've been shooting very well also.- msalm

Gunsmithing Melonite extending barrel life?
Re: Melonite extending barrel life? I was under the impression it wasn't a good idea for actions due to the temperatures involved...upwards of 1100 degrees, which certainly would F* up the temper on a heattreated action... ?.- msalm

Re: Melonite extending barrel life? I haven't tried it YET, but am anxious to. I know of a benchrest shooter that had it done to a few barrels and has no complaints about the accuracy afterwards. It does case harden the surface substantially and I don't think there are any issues with...- msalm

Re: Trouble with cold boreing Have it cryo'd. Badger Cryogenics in Baraboo, WI can do that for you reasonably and very quick. If the barrel is changing POI from cold to hot (good or bad either way) I'd try a cryo stress relief.- msalm
