    168 BTHP, RL17 @ 45.5gr, 2.816 16"bbl, ~2460 FPS But, that's pointless, given your choice of powders, barrel and chamber. Look at any manual, search your specific powder and bullets, do your homework and do some tests.

    If you're going to load to 2.820, knowing it's jammed, start with low powder and work up. Find your sweet spot and then load 1,000's. Nothin' wrong with tinkering as long as you bring along it's essential companion, common sense. :)

    +1 to Nuke_Shooter's suggestion Do yourself a favor: outfit your rig the way you want it in the end, and make sure it cycles flawlessly. Then tinker with your loads.

    Nice. I suggest you load to magazine length. I regularly load SMKs for my AR to 2.816, which just fits into the magazine. Single shot loading an AR sucks donkey schlong.

    Neck tension. Did you anneal the 1x fired? Otherwise you have the work hardened necks presenting a possibility. Another possibility is the subconscious golem effect where you might have thought it would perform differently and thus it did.

    WTK powder and component selection for single load for multiple rifles

    I would look at Varget, 4831, RL17/RL19. I get great velocities out of my 308 with 4064 (faster burn rate than varget) but poor grouping no matter what the bullet weight or powder charge. You could also look at TAC or W760, I have seen 760 on the shelf recently.
