First time at 1000yards. Tell me what you think is the problem.

I've read the 1st edition cover to cover, but have not yet update to the 2nd edition. I thought about the same exterior ballistic effects of barrel whip, but had no way to measure that without a real high speed camera. I think, with me anyway, the user effects dominate these other effects.

First time at 1000yards. Tell me what you think is the problem.

the drop due to gravity is exponential ever 100 yards. 9m/sec**2 or something like that.

    Scope base for elr

Spuhr. I think I got his 40 or higher MOA base for my S&B... plus its the most solid looking thing out there.

First time at 1000yards. Tell me what you think is the problem.

well that is fascinating data. I have seen similar and it's quite frustrating. You measure groups out to 500 and they are good. The question is due to ballistics being exponential, not linear over distance, is whether the 100-300 yard groups can be an indicator that that MOA grouping can be held...

What do you consider the most essential gear for ELR?

Fascinating. I think I've seen similar when I was practicing 1 mile plus, and that was with Shooter. That sent me on a hunt for BC broken down by velocity brackets, and fortunately, Lapua (I shoot the 300 Scenar) published some velocity bracketed BCs. But I can't say definitively whether that...

First time at 1000yards. Tell me what you think is the problem.

one critical piece of info I didn't see in the OP was how well did the OP shoot at his first 300 yard target... was he 1 MOA or less? Is the 1000 yard target 1MOA or less in size? unless you have that piece of info it's useless to try to debug the problem.

What do you consider the most essential gear for ELR?

I'd say the shooter themself is the biggest factor by far... have you mastered running the rifle with super consistency. Then I'd say a Vectronix or equivalent to get the correct range, and ammo with low SD/ED, otherwise you'll know the range, but you'll dance all around a mile target as your MV...

    2707 Yard 1.54mi shot!

on my ballistic solution, my 339LM with MV of approx 2740fps will trans sonic at around 1800 yards... how do you get to 2700 yards with about the same MV...? You must be like at what altitude?

.338 Lapua and 300 grain ers with Reloader 33

I went from Retumbo to N560 tpo N570 with 300 Scenar and 215M primers. Retumbo showed signs of pressure and the recoil felt like it burned faster and hit harder. But this is not scientific and I'd like to go back and retry Retumbo once again and compare. I can say N570 and it's graphite coating...

Midway 338 Lapua brass on sale

You know why they are discounting the brass? I suspect because nobody is buying it, because nobody can buy the powder to reload the dang things. I certainly can't find any.

    338 Laupa

Tried Retumbo and N560. Settled on N570, tightest groups by far. Super slow burning and the recoil seemed to be the lowest. Retumbo kicks like a mule. I'll happily buy any N570 anyone wants to sell.

    3650 Yard shot @ Whittington Center(375 Chey-tac)

having shot plenty to a mile in the CA high desert BLM, I am amazed that both the spotter can see anything at 2 miles, and moreover at 25x that the shooter can see anything at 2 miles, mirage or not. And throwing in a slight mirage wow... seems impossible to me. Then the elevation... how do you...

    Vectronix Terrrapin maximum range?

Guys, your achieved range is based on the following: a) hitting the target of course... the beam divergence and your aim must make sure hit the intended target vs something else nearby or in front. b) reflectivity of the target. Various materials absorb/reflect the IR energy differently. c)...

    162 amazes @ 1854 yds

Vertical dispersion is quite possible depending on your locale... here in Norcal with wild winds in high desert canyons, an upslope/downslope winds can carry the bullet up or down as much as it blows left and right. My 300 Scenars get pushed all over the place. In the rare dusks when the wind...

PLRF-05 vs New Bushnell Fusion 1 mile arcs

the 4000yard measurement on PRLF05 is fun, but not the way I measure performance. I own the PRLF05 btw, and got rid of a Bushnell, so I am Vectro fan. The way to measure any laser ranging device is not at sunset or dawn, but during the day with alot of IR interference from ambient sun light...

    Time of Flight 4.05 seconds.....

Re: Time of Flight 4.05 seconds..... one fun aspect of this distance is you have all day it seems, after the shot, to casually take off your ear muffs, take a drink, and listen for the ring if you hit.

    Time of Flight 4.05 seconds.....

Re: Time of Flight 4.05 seconds..... do this more, esp in wind, and you'll realize 50% is a fantastic hit rate on 2x2 plate at 2K yards. Good work.

Realistic range of the 338 Lapua

Re: Realistic range of the 338 Lapua I would love to see one of those, on the FIRST take of the day. In hill country on a summer day at noon.

    how good is google earth.....

Re: how good is google earth..... in areas of hills and such it's not clear how accurate Google Earth or GPS is... since the 'distance' calculated is by methods not described in their docs. I think it gets pretty close, but to avoid doubt completely a Terrapin LRF is the real deal.

Realistic range of the 338 Lapua

Re: Realistic range of the 338 Lapua yeah, mile is a matter of spotter competence, and all shooter has to do is have good form and follow spotter instruction exactly.
