Does using Palma brass alter chamber pressure?

Re: Does using Palma brass alter chamber pressure? Nice input folks. The small primer does indeed make the pressure signs go elsewhere. I know when I'm close to max pressure the bolt lift gets a little tougher and my Win small rifle primer gets punched through. My melonited barrel after 850...

    45.8 Varget in a 308 w/ 175 SMK

Re: 45.8 Varget in a 308 w/ 175 SMK That sounds way hot. How long do your primer pockets last with this load? I am near the max with 44.8 RL 15 with Lapua brass, 175 smk, Fed 210m primer and melonited barrel. I get 2790 fps with this on a 27" barrel.

    Shoulder bump question.

Re: Shoulder bump question. To bump the shoulder back you either need a full sizing die, or full sizing die with bushing, or a body die which does not have any neck sizing. I dont think you can bump the shoulder back any other way.

    First 308 reloads. important question!

Re: First 308 reloads. important question! Measure your chamber with the Sinclair chamber length gauge just to be safe. But in all actuality 2.016 should be fine, my chamber length is 2.029.

    Varget or RE15 for .223

Re: Varget or RE15 for .223 25.2 gr of Varget for me with 69 smk. Temp stable and accurate for both my AR and bolt 223 on Win brass or Remington.

    Seating depth

Re: Seating depth Thats not a bad jump, try it first on your rifle and see if it groups well. I have been running the 308 with 208 gr AMAX for 1000 yd matches and they work great. It's worth a try.

Does using Palma brass alter chamber pressure?

Re: Does using Palma brass alter chamber pressure? I love the Palma brass, I have some with 10+ firings and primer pocket is still tight. I found I had to add .2 gr of powder to get the same speed as the reg brass. Other than that you can definitely load a slightly hotter load with no primer...

shoulder bump gauge alternative to Hornady

Re: shoulder bump gauge alternative to Hornady Another vote for the RCBS precision mic, I just wish they had more caliber options. I have 1 for 308 and another for 223, could sure use a 260 version if they made it.

Rifle Scopes Suggestion for GAP-10 glass

Re: Suggestion for GAP-10 glass Give the IOR 1.5-8x cqb scope a look, I have one and love it. Glass is very high quality and is tough as nails. A bit heavy though and priced a bit above 1k.

Whats the most accurate 5.56 barrel for a 18" SPR

Re: Whats the most accurate 5.56 barrel for a 18" SPR I can get 1" to 1.25" with handloaded 69 smk. I think I can get even better with more magnification than my 8x scope has.

Whats the most accurate 5.56 barrel for a 18" SPR

Re: Whats the most accurate 5.56 barrel for a 18" SPR I have the 18" rainier ultra match and am very happy with it. I have it on a Mega monolithic upper and it's very accurate. I'm glad I had the barrel melonited to minimize barrel wear on it, so far so good.

    308 or 260 Rem

Re: 308 or 260 Rem Oh yea, beyond 600 yards and the 6.5/264 caliber checks out compared to a 308. But you can't beat the availability and cost of 308 components..

    308 or 260 Rem

Re: 308 or 260 Rem You have a good point but to be fair I am pushing both examples pretty hard. My barrel is 27" for the 308 and 26" for the 260 near max loads. I agree 600 might be a stretch but I think for 500 or less the energy still is higher with the 308 compared to 260 using factory...
