Opinions on B&C XCR Tactical stock.

Thinking about getting one for the Rem 700. This is the green stock w/black webbing, integral aluminum bedding block and the A-3 style butt stock with the thumb hook. Anybody have/use one of these? I know they are not a McMillan/Manners etc, but is it a good stock for the dollars? How does...

Night Vision Tight Budget & Some NV Advice

Been wanting to get a NV device for a while now. I love the quality and versatility of the PVS-14, but just can't justify the cost for the amount of use it would get. The purpose would be dual: 1) help me hike safely up the mtn. to my 'spot' hours before first light and; spot/judge game from a...

Why not .338 LM Ackley Improved?

Kirby Allen's 338 Allen Express is close to what you are talking about. Doesn't quite get to 3100 fps, but does tend to max out the 338 lapua case. He does more than just "ackley-ize" the case. He blows out the side walls a little more; improves the shoulder angle; and moves the shoulder...

    remington's new 700 long range!!

Lots of comments on Remington's long range model - but precious little info on how well they shoot out of the box. Are they "Sendero" accurate, or more like the SPS "grab bag" where you never know what you are going to get?

Rifle Scopes Scope options around $700

I really like the Sightron SIII. Have two of them. Great bang for the buck. I see them now and again in gently used condition for about $700.

Rifle Scopes looking for a good 300 blackout scope

I ran a combo of both Vortex scope (magnification - supersonic) and a side-mounted Burris fastfire II (subsonic) for quite some time. I recently switched to an Eotech Blackout 300 model just to try something different. If I don't like it, I will switch back again.

Rifle Scopes yes me again :-) scope question

If you are asking about difference in quality and options - Nightforce. Period. But comparing the two is like apples to oranges. Nightforce typically not on the menu, if shooter is on a budget. Leupold typically is less in both price and weight. Personally, I would choose the Sightron SIII...

    Why I'll buy another Mcree!!!

Likewise, I found my dealings with Scott a refreshing take on customer service. He took his time and answered all my questions. Came away with a Gen 5 folder, which is a dream to shoot. I highly recommend both the company and their product.

Gunsmithing Magnum head Bolt Replacement for Model Seven?

Does anyone make a replacement bolt for the Remington Model Seven with a magnum head? I saw a thread where PTG made a special run of them a few years back, but it is not part of their normal offering on the website. Is there a source I am overlooking?

Range Report Trim vs point meplat

I think the jury is still out on this. Some Benchrest shooters swear by it while others say they see no improvement at all. The primary reason for meplat trimming is consistency. In theory, it should close up groups. Both target shooters and hunter do it for better groups. The targets...

Taking a training class, knowing you will struggle?

Squarepizza, Shooting is just as much a mental game as it is having the perfect equipment. Having said that, your current setup will frustrate you and eventually lead you to doubt your own abilities because it will difficult to separate the shortcomings of the equipment from the shortcomings...

Barrel length for 338 Lapua at ELR

Portability was not an issue for me, so I went with a 30" Krieger.

    Range Finder

There's a couple of similar threads re rangefinders under "Equipment" right now. My two cents: the 1600B is a great unit, but I don't believe it will do what you want consistently in all conditions. Fir that, you need to step up to the Terrapin.

    g7 br2 or vectronix terrapin

Grant B, Did you use both the Near & Far function modes on the elk? That has worked for me in the past when I have had cause to doubt the distance calculated in the default mode of strongest signal.

There is a good thread on RL33 and the 338 Lapua over on LRH.

    g7 br2 or vectronix terrapin

So far, the G7 BR2 has worked very well for me. To my mind, the vectronics terrapin is clearly the better rangefinder with its narrower beam divergence. However, I liked the ease with which the BR2 calculates and then gives me a firing solution. It cuts enough steps out of the process, that...

    Rangefinders

More often than not it isn't how far a rangefinder will range a reflective target/object in perfect conditions, but how and consistently it ranges during all types of weather and all kinds of targets. This is where most rangefinders will fall short. One of the most difficult tests for a...

Hunting & Fishing Suppressed hunting bullet expansion

Outlaws are expensive, but they absolutely stone them. Otherwise, I shoot the 240 gr. SMK. I have a 1 in 8 twist barrel with 10" length and they begin to destabilize as soon as the leave the muzzle. The are starting to keyhole the target at 25 yds.
