Gunsmithing 8-40 scope base hole is stripped. Now what?

You can't fix that f up as it should be for 50 bucks - you've already used up that trying to figure it out. It's the customers problem and he thinks he's entitled to someone else to fix it for $50? Call him and tell him to come get it. I hate to be a hard ass, but are you running a business...

Gunsmithing Feed issue on 98 Mauser

Yes, we are talking about the 57mm case. Yes, increasing the bullet diameter reduces the shoulder. However, even with a 9.5mm (.375 diameter) bullet, the surface area available for the cartridge to headspace on is far greater than that available on a belted magnum. Whether peeps headspace on the...

Gunsmithing Feed issue on 98 Mauser

There is no problem with head spacing these rounds. There is almost three times the surface area with a 9.5 case to headspace than there is with the belts on standard magnum cartridges.

You guys need to read your history a bit more. Hitler was a Sunday school picnic compared to Stalin. Stalin killed more people than Hitler ever did in the Holomador, the year before Hitler took over Germany. Where do you think the blockheads got their ideas to kill the Jews? - the Russians...

I fire up all my two stroke Detroits on Earth Day just to feed the trees the greenies are starving. If they want to reduce CO2 they can all just stop breathing. F'ing morons. I'll bet your red concrete mixer likes the fuel.

    Gunsmithing inexpensive stock checkering?

Checkering a gunstock properly is a time consuming job. Time = money. If you don't want to spend it, leave it bare. You will get what you pay for.

    savage target action

I just put one together for my young son to use. Bought a used rifle for 275, changed caliber, involved trading bolt head/magazine and barrel. Bought takeoff parts (barrel brand new) and sold what I didn't need. Has a brand new Leupold VX-1 2-7 and we have right at 500 in it. It takes about...

Gunsmithing What company will heat treat a receiver?

As long as the receiver and bolt are properly heat treated by an experienced operator, you'll be fine. Modern heat treatment facilities get far more consistent results than in the old days, when everything was pretty much done by eye. Getting a Rockwell number on hardness with a case hardened...

Gunsmithing What company will heat treat a receiver?

The best place is Blanchards Metal Processing in SLC, Utah. They do em by the boatload. Do the bolt too. Forget the color case BS, most of the jokers that do that do not get the mechanical properties of the steel right, it's just for decoration.

    Moving to Wyoming

I spoke with a customer of mine in Maryland today. In a week the movers come and he is headed to Wyoming too. It seems their state motto in MD "If you can dream it, we can tax it" is wearing a little thin with him.

    Gunsmithing Rustoleum instead of Krylon

I use it on my working rifles. It scratches easily, but it's so cheap you just give it another squirt every now and then. It's a very flat non reflective paint. Even a flat clear coat will provide some reflectivity, so I don't use any. With just a little use, your rifle will look like you...
