Gunsmithing AICS recoil lug opening dimensions?

Re: AICS recoil lug opening dimensions? i got a new SA 2.0 from Baur Arms in March and the lug slot was .186" IIRC. i had to chuck the barreled action in a lathe and face the front (muzzle side) of the recoil lug to .184". i don't know whose recoil lug was on the barreled action, but this...

    long action what to do?

Re: long action what to do? lol, i agree. i have a .308 that i havent used in years. a .30-06 isn't lightyears ahead of the .308, but would make better use of a long action. the best cartridge for that action for long range would be .280AI in my opinion.

    I don't get it?

Re: I don't get it? one thing about it, with components this scarce and expensive, it makes a better marksman out of most of us. we HAVE to make every shot count.

    Gunsmithing How Much Glass Bedding

Re: How Much Glass Bedding remove just the bare minimum to get the action where you want it. two or three tablespoons of bedding compound should bed an action.

Gunsmithing AICS Modification for Remington 700

Re: AICS Modification for Remington 700 here is my girlie .223 in AICS with Jewell trigger. you will need to modify something. on mine (i've done two) i filed the pins/rivets on the trigger narrower and left the chassis alone. some guys have a clearance cut milled in the chassis, tho.

Rifle Scopes Totally disgusted with Leupold

Re: Totally disgusted with Leupold selecting optics is all about balancing the compromises. if you step down to any scope from S&B, USO or Premier, you are giving up something. if you are not willing to give up that something, you are looking at $3K+. i have a USO Canadian and NF 3.5-15...

    Rifle Scopes Huskama Optics

Re: Huskama Optics it looks like every other BDC knob out there. works for one bullet at one speed and one temp at one altitude ect... deviate from that and you are back to guesswork. my rifles launch bullets at very different speeds from sub-zero to 100*+. knobs dont know the difference...

    Gunsmithing New Barrel Question?

Re: New Barrel Question? almost all of the top tier barrel makers only produce ONE grade of barrel. their best. and that's how it should be. i'd look at Pac-Nor before Shilen, but still prefer Lilja, Brux, Hart, Krieger, Broughton, ect

    Gunsmithing New Barrel Question?

Re: New Barrel Question? i'd suggest the 1-9" twist. all of the premium barrels will meet your expectations. i have Krieger, Brux, two Harts, Broughton, and two Liljas. all simply amaze me at times. my favorite is Lilja, simply because he cuts the outer contour of the barrel to a nice...

    resize new brass?

Re: resize new brass? Doc, what happens to brass when fired then sized? what happens to brass when just sized? pretty much the same thing. IMO, it is not the firing that kills brass, but the resizing die. if you get that many cycles out of your brass, no worries. but if you are running...

Gunsmithing Badger M5 in an M4 inlet stock ?

Re: Badger M5 in an M4 inlet stock ? the mag box is contained by the cut in the action on top, and a cut that the box fits into on the M4. it will be secure if assembled correctly.

Gunsmithing Badger M5 in an M4 inlet stock ?

Re: Badger M5 in an M4 inlet stock ? yes it will drop right in, but there will be a very small gap, just along the straight cut on both sides of the mag well. all else fits perfectly on my M4/M5 swaps.

Re: what weapons did the Seals us on the pirates? i myself could care less if they used trapdoor springfields to do the job. but i could also care less if somebody else wants to ask the question. i mean, for cryin' out loud, look at the JFK assination thread that ran here a while back. WTF...
