    Gunsmithing Modifying .223 magazine box

Re: Modifying .223 magazine box yea, you just get rid of the factory filler block and install something thinner in it's place. i use plastic .3" thick, and i glue it in with RTV silicone. works for me. i've done two this way.

    bullet seating problem

Re: bullet seating problem it sounds like your seating die is forming the case somehow. are you using Redding dies? some of them have a crimp feature that can screw with your cases if you set them up so the shell holder bumps the die

    Twist Rates and Stability

Re: Twist Rates and Stability don't know about ARs, but i shoot everything from 55 Vmax to 75 grain Amax from my 8" twist bolt gun. the Nosler 69s shoot fine from 8" twists.

    Effect of Seating Depth

Re: Effect of Seating Depth seating depth makes a big difference in pressures. in the 7wsm, a .15" reduction in seating depth will require dropping the powder charge 1 grain to maintain the same approximate pressure. smaller case will affect it even more.

    Gunsmithing Badger FTE modification

Re: Badger FTE modification IIRC, the barrel needs to be set up in a lathe on the axis of the bore, the brake installed, and the baffles opened to .020" over bullet dia. i think they all come with a small hole in the baffles, so the 'smith will have to fit any of them to the barrel.

Hunting & Fishing 264 Win Mag for hunting, what do you think

Re: 264 Win Mag for hunting, what do you think i've killed a lot of stuff with mine. don't use cheap bullets for hunting. i like the TSX. and every so often Crod1972 has once fired brass for sale in the classifieds here. don't get impatient when reloading for the .264, as pressures can rise...

.264 Win Mag and 130gr TSX

Re: .264 Win Mag and 130gr TSX i've been using 64.5 grains of IMR7828 with the 130 TSX with COAL of about 3.25" runs about 3250 fps in 26" barrel. WORK UP TO THIS! QL shows this to be near max.

    Gunsmithing Recoil lug?

Re: Recoil lug? you can get precision ground recoil lugs from Midway in different thicknesses. McMillan stocks seem to have recoil lug recesses that will take .250" lugs, the old AICS stocks would take .196" the main thing is to get a flat/true lug. your factory lug can be surface ground.

Lee 3 Jaw Chuck - Anyone with experience?

Re: Lee 3 Jaw Chuck - Anyone with experience? it says "merritt 2404" but i bought the first one i found that looked like it might still work. cost $10 IIRC but came in a disgusting pink case and had pink trim. it was pretty easy to graft the chuck on, but gutting the machine took longer. it...

    Safe to tumble loaded ammo?

Re: Safe to tumble loaded ammo? i was a firefighter for a while here, and pretty much every house in this state has ammo in it. ammo cooking off diddn't bother me. the primers just bounce off the turnouts. a loaded gun in a fire did bother me.
