Re: Safe to tumble loaded ammo? i'll bet money that EVERY factory tumbles their loaded ammo. but i'd hate to squelch the drama here.... talk about keyboard champions lol. every round i have shot for years has been tumbled. and i shoot more than most.

    Safe to tumble loaded ammo?

Re: Safe to tumble loaded ammo? i tumble all of my loaded ammo to remove the sizing lube. i read of a test conducted on another board where a guy tumbled some loaded ammo for a full week and the ammo chronographed the same as the controll group that was not tumbled at all. i shoot only...

6.5 twist rate for 139-142gr projos

Re: 6.5 twist rate for 139-142gr projos my 1-9" Sendero would not stabilize the 142 SMK, but shot the 140s fine. so, 140s are a go, but the long 142 may or may not work for you.

Quick question re: shipping firearm to FFL holder

Re: Quick question re: shipping firearm to FFL holder no. the only requirement is that you check the ATF web site and confirm that FFL is listed there. the ATF does not really want the FFLs to send copys of their license to anyone other than other FFL holders, but many people don't really...

Rifle Scopes Ques about barrel/obj clearance. Is 0.072" GTG?

Re: Need expert opinion. 0.072" barrel/obj clearance? i used to be ok with being able to slide a dollar bill betwixt scope and barrel until i saw the vid of that .50 under recoil somebody linked here a while back.

Hunting & Fishing Good light weight hunting rifles

Re: Good light weight hunting rifles i like less than 7# in the mountains and shoot it enough that confidence is there. packing meat out is all the more reason for a light weight rifle. less rifle = more meat. i was a wildland firefighter for ten years and can pack a lot of weight, but i...

Fieldcraft Effects of Rain/Snow on Accuracy

Re: Effects of Rain/Snow on Accuracy i've only noticed two issues. one, rain or snow makes my LRF stupid, and the other problem is when i can not see the target through the rain/snow.

Gunsmithing Bedding an AICS yes or maybe??

Re: Bedding an AICS yes or maybe?? +1 on sobrbiker's thoughts. i would not spend close to $1K on a stock that needed bedding. i spend that much on them because they don't need bedding. my AICS stocks are part of my "modular" weapons systems. like having common scope rails to allow changing...

Range Report Interested in learning... ballistic range card ?'s

Re: Interested in learning... ballistic range card ?'s here is how i do it: zero at 100 yards then shoot at 500 yards or so and write down how many mils it takes to get to 500 (or whatever distance you can shoot to) then go to the JBM Ballistics site (google it) in the bullet box (a...

Looking to make a few mods to my 700.

Re: Looking to make a few mods to my 700. i'd go with a Lilja, Brux, Hart, Broughton, Krieger, ect. in Remington Varmint contour so it will fit yor barrel channel. twist it 1:8 for the 75 Amax

    Tumbling tarnished ammo

Re: Tumbling tarnished ammo i tumble ALL of my loaded ammo to get the sizing lube off. 30 minutes in corncob is the norm. never had a problem. i read about a test on another board where a guy tumbled loaded ammo for a week and compared to the baseline ammo. no difference in velocity.

    6.5mm 142gr HPBT MK with 1-9 twist?

Re: 6.5mm 142gr HPBT MK with 1-9 twist? the 142s diddn't shoot too well in my .264 Sendero (1:9"), but 140 SMKs did. some other guys said the 142 worked for them, tho, so i guess you'd have to try. when i order 6.5 barrels, i order 1:8" or 1:8.5" twist.

    .223 vs. .223AI...advice?

Re: .223 vs. .223AI...advice? no need to jam if you don't want to. the .004" crush holds the case solidly in place for the fireforming. this applies only if the chamber was cut correctly. barrels with standard chambers need to be set back when chambered for AI cartridges so they will have the...

Gunsmithing AICS Recol lug recess question

Re: AICS Recol lug recess question probably the same reason as the OP, barreled action from another rifle with a .250" lug already installed.

Gunsmithing AICS Recol lug recess question

Re: AICS Recol lug recess question another option is to chuck the barreled action in a lathe and face the front (muzzle side) of the recoil lug to .194" or so. my short action recoil lug recess was .196" worked for me anyway.

Talk me out of a 6.5 STW

Re: Talk me out of a 6.5 STW i shoot the 142s at 3250 and get 1000+ rounds barrel life. i don't borescope, but replace when accuracy goes south.
