    ideal FPS .308 168 ?

Which ever velocity your rifle groups the best is ideal. Look up OCW load development, and start there. For me, in a 20" 10-twist barrel, I am 2630-2650 fps from a 175gr. So your loads sound a bit slow not knowing anything else about your setup. But as always, watch for pressure signs, and...

    Advice on steel targets

As long as they are HPBT or equivalent, no problem. If he is using bonded or partitions, it won't go through, but may leave a dent. You could even get away with the 3/8" if you put it at least 500-600m down range.

    SPS Lt. Tactical - Shooter?

Yep. I was planning on using mine as a donor action, but can't find a need at this point in time. I went out shooting yesterday with another member, and shot sub-1/2 MOA with HIS handloads for his GAP on my factory barrel, action and bolt. Though nothing else is the same on mine any more...

Comercial buffer tube vs mil spec

The difference in thread cutting is: On the milspec, the entire tube is solid aluminum, and the thread recesses and entire tube are cut downward. Leaving the peaks of the thread sticking up above the body of the tube. The entire tube was once the diameter of the peaks of the thread. On the...

Rifle Scopes This really makes me sad for the buyer.

Wholey Crap. I knew about the CS scopes, but never really looked them up. Is the aluminum really the same price as the S&B from the manufacturer, and the Titanium version more than 2x that of the S&B???? Or are the numbers just that inflated form the mfg website? Either way, I'll take the...

Comercial buffer tube vs mil spec

Sort of. The threads will fit into the same receiver, so you can put either a Mil-spec tube or a commercial spec tube into the same lower, no problem. However, the threads are deeper on a mil-spec tube than on a commercial spec tube, which gives some additional strength at that threaded point...

question on 357 sig vs magnum bullets

I have verified and stand corrected. I have a buddy who is FLEO and issued 357 sig, and we discussed reloads for it montha ago, and was goin off of memory, and have researched and found you are indeed correct. I should have known better since A) it was off of memory, and B) he can get ammo...

Hunting & Fishing Weatherby vanguard 2 opinions

I have one in 257WBY Mag, that I picked up because my elk rifle was devastating White Tail Deer when I started hunting them. The Elk gun did fine on Mule deer, but I lost too much meat with it on Whitetail. The Vanguard 2 is a big improvement over the original Vanguard. The trigger is...

    Getting zero by ballistic software

Agreed. Just sight it properly. What you have spent on the rifle and optic is worth doing it right, even if it might cost you more ammo. BUT... I bet it costs you less ammo. Lets say you spend 10 shots chasing around that ballistic software, never hitting paper. You are now 10 shots down...

Gunsmithing AX Stock question with a timmy 510 trigger

Mine did not need any, and has a good amount of clearance to spare.. All 2013 production (barreled action, Timney and AX). YMMV as stated above.

Suppressors How to set up my 6920 for a suppressor?

Plenty of people have ran cans on their CL gas AR-15s. I don't think you are going to ruin it by running a can on it as is. If you are worried about it a bunch, swap out an H2 or H3 buffer to slow down your cyclic rate. Though watch out, you will be getting a little gas in your face unless...

    My first scope

That is a tough question to answer directly. I know far more hunters that hunt with simple covered turret scopes, than do with tactical exposed turret scopes. I am in the same group, I practice hold overs and Kentucky windage for my hunting shots. Especially white-tail hunting in river-beds...

Sidearms & Scatterguns need advice for a pistol

As an avid M&P fan, I'll say that they are great pistols. However, for someone looking to get into them right now magazine availability is a concern. They are damn near impossible to find, and have been for more than 6 months. Unfortunately, because of that, I'd recommend the Glock 22,23 or 27.

Rifle Scopes Scope reccomendations for Remi 700 .300winmag

At that price range, I'd be looking at the SWFA SS, The Vortex PST, or the Bushnell Elites.

New Rifle - Won't Group: Suggestions?

See if you can find some heavier rounds too. That 1:10 twist likes heavy rounds in the 300WM. FGMM 190 SMKs or similar would be a good baseline.

    OCW testing FAIL

I really try to avoid saying these things.... But: Myself and two friends started with a similar setup.. they are much different now though, and our hogue stocks are no more. That rifle, in stock trim will shoot sub-MOA. Unless you got a lemon out of the factory, and if so you need to figure...

    OCW testing FAIL

To expand: your 44g on 185s is much more impressive than the factory loads. Is it repeatable? Don't worry about centered on target, you can adjust that. If you can repeat that group, stick with it. That's your money load so far.

    OCW testing FAIL

What distance for the shots? If @100yds/m your zero is worrisome... yes, better than the others but that rifle, even with that stock, should do sub-moa. That zero is even 1.5moa approx if these were taken at 100y/m. What kind of support, and wind were you shooting from/in?
