168gr SMK vs 175gr SMK at 100 yards

If you are getting .5-.75" accuracy at 100yds then don't sweat it. Especially if that gun still has the original stock and trigger and hasn't been floated and bedded. There is nothing wrong with working up more than one load though. When it's hard to find one component you will have something...

    Check out this Yeti cooler

I was lucky enough to win one of these coolers in a Ducks Unlimited raffle this past year for $10. Great cooler. I would never spend the money to buy one if I had to pay retail though.

Range Report 20 MOA @100 yds insert

The easiest way to be on target at 100yds is to pull the bolt and look down the barrel while adjusting the scope reticle to match the target. This should put you on paper.

Range Report Took my new rifle to the range today.

I guess you are right. You said you used match then started reloading with that brass. I guess when I read the next sentence I thought you meant it was your reloads. I totally missed the match part. I triple check b4 I load. Good thing I guess.

Range Report Took my new rifle to the range today.

What powder and charge were you using for that string? I ran from 41-45gr Varget under mine and 45gr is just starting to compress when seated at 2.80"OAL. 44-45gr gave me 2575-2615fps. I plan on using this for a load that can be used as universal between my brother's rifle and mine. As long as...

Range Report Took my new rifle to the range today.

Nice group. Have you chronographed that load? I shot an OCW test today starting at 41gr Varget in FL sized LC brass under 168amax and it averaged at 2385fps in my AAC-SD. I would think 38.7gr would put it well under 2300fps probably close to 2250fps in my short barrel. What length barrel do you...

am I wasting my time doing a ladder at 150 yards?

Just do OCW testing with 3 shot groups. Find the center of the node and play with your seating depth.

    9mm practice loads

Yes, pistol is much easier and faster. You can fit more in your tumbler and as stated if you get carbide dies things get really simple. My favorite is 4.1-4.2gr of Titegroup under 115gr FMJRN for plinking.

    Bipod height?

Just go ahead and get both. I have both and the most useful seems to be 6-9 but I don't do a lot of shooting on slopes either.

    Graf 175's?

Just got some in and they look identical to the 175smk I already have. They weigh the same and from measuring quite a few the majority measure 1.250" where most of the smk measure at 1.245" Looks like they might just be smk blems?? I am going to load some just as I would my smk and see if the...

    Winchester 308 brass reload problem

Ambient temperature doesn't make the big difference. Powder temperature is a different story. Get an inexpensive temp gun and check your ammo temp instead of ambient temp. I try to keep my ammo in the shade when I shoot to keep the temp down.

    Range Report AAC-SD 175gr Sierra MatchKing/RL-17 ladder testing (400yds)

Shot 1 group this afternoon. Let my brother get some shooting in today for a change and didn't get much time behind mine. I tried a 5 shot group but fudged the 5th shot so I put a 6th in there. I think you can tell which one I pulled. The 5 that were on target measured .643" Either this means I...

    Winchester 308 brass reload problem

Yeah, sometimes faster is definitely not better. I tried that with varget and 178 amax before and had to settle for 2435fps at 43.5gr with that load. I shot up to just over 2600fps but there was no node there and I was compressing powder. That's what turned me on to RL17. Managed to get over...

    Winchester 308 brass reload problem

49gr of RL17 in full length sized Winchester brass under a 208 amax and you aren't seeing pressure signs?? I am using 48.7gr in Winchester and Remington brass under a 175SMK and getting 2613 average velocity out of my 700 AAC-SD. When I first started to work the load up I shot a ladder up to...

Lots of blemished bullets and brass in-stock

Not only did I order some 168 amax today but they shipped today also.

    First Ladder Test

OCW is another good way to do it. I have tried ladder testing and OCW and I can't tell which I like better. If only I had the time needed to compare both to see if they give you a similar conclusion or something totally different. OCW can give you velocity, POI change and group size all at the...

    First Ladder Test

A ladder test is not done at 100yds. More than likely you won't be able to tell anything from a ladder test at 100yds. Were you using increasing charges for each particular powder or what? It looks as though you just chose random charges of each powder and shot groups.

Range Report Introducing "Shooter", ballistics for Android!

In "Preferences" it shows you can choose + for up and right; - for down and left. I just chose that preference in mine and when entering a wind from 9 o'clock it gives me a - adjustment to adjust left for the wind.

    308 Win.Reloader 17 W/178 A-Max

The numbers seem right to me because I have a 20" factory barrel and my brother has a 26" factory barrel. When shooting factory ammo and handloads the average velocity difference is between 150 and 180. From what I have seen you can figure close to 25-30fps/inch of barrel. But, it can also...
