    heck yes you can get to 600. You might give up a little velocity, but a shorter barrel is stiffer and, I think more accurate, than a long one...

    depends how your gun shoots. test it out at say 300 yards. it will let you know more than the 100 yard line will. i like a scope with 20x for a 1000 yards if its for critters and such. i have had several mark 4s and they are ok. not sure on the factory ammo......

    I'm a fan of the 243 if you want a DBM. It makes life easy. I'm a firm believer in cleaning up your necks with a turner. I have tight necked rifles and I have no turn rifles and they both produce exceptional groups.

    practice practice practice. I cant emphasize that enough. Dont just shoot when its nice out either. Shoot when its windy, cold, rainy......... it will make you a better marksman.

    You will need a faster twist for those bigger longer bullets. Its worth trying tho. Load some 69gr sierras and see what they can do...

    Depends what kind of steel you will be using and how far you will be shooting... a 3x3 piece of half inch is gonna be a sob to work with. why so big?
