Re: .300 WSM
A fellow member, Rodent, shoots a 12" steel target at a range of one mile with a 300 WSM and 208 AMax's.
And I witnessed him shooting a groundhog at just under 1000 yards with it.
You could PM him for more info.
Re: 105 AMax to 1200 yards
I'm thinking I may get a little better than 3200 fps out of a 243 wssm. Hornady says I would only have to go up 25.1 MOA for 3200 fps, but I think it will be a tad more than that.
Re: long range varmint for .224
Dutchboy over at the wssmzone forum shoots 75 AMax's in his 223 wssm Savage /Pac-Nor barrel. He says the bullets are devastating on all small animals he shoots.
64 Bergers out of my 18" Competitor pistol in 22-250 are nasty on 'chucks. But I haven't shot one...
Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio
First, I don't sell benches. All the parts for my bench were bought at a Home Depot. I consider it a compliment for someone to copy my bench and I will gladly provide a parts list.
My bench is similar to the plans posted by mscott, but mine can be shot...
Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio
Wow. That was fast, Tom. I'm impressed. And its very kind of you to accommodate the older shooters. I look forward to meeting you sometime this summer (I won't be in Ohio until the end of April).
Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio
I will be 64 in a couple weeks and I can get in the prone position, but before I get to the 12th target, my neck is screaming. I shot the short course last spring with Rodent & two others on a Friday.
MScott, as for the intimidator course, my bench is...
Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio
I use my bench to shoot groundhogs in OH & PA and prairie dogs out west.
My bench is version 1.2 it now has steel plates where the pipe flanges are bolted. Version 1 is pictured. About $60 or $70 for materials at Home Depot.
Rodent has seen my bench, I...
Re: 105 AMax to 1200 yards
BTW, my spreadsheet bullet stability calculator says I need a 7.3 twist to hit a SF of 1.3 with a MV of 3200 FPS.
I think I need a new calculator. What are you using to calculate bullet stability?
Re: 105 AMax to 1200 yards
Thanks, BobinNC.
I think I will be able to run about 3200 FPS at the muzzle (28" barrel). I have a spreaadsheet ballistic calculator and when I input 1300 FPS as a "break velocity", it tells me I need 3232 FPS MV to reach 1200 yards.
I'm leaning toward a twist of...
I'm planning a 243 wssm build and want to shoot the 105 AMax out to 1200 yards. 900' elevation, 75 degrees air temp.
Questions:
In order to keep pressure down and also be able to shoot lighter bullets on occasion, what is the minimum twist I can use?
What muzzle velocity is needed to stay above...
Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio
I'll be converting my shot out Kreiger 223 wssm to a 243 wssm when I get back to OH in May. Just wondering if 105 AMax's make enough splat to be seen or heard at the 1165 yard steel.
Re: 223 Barrel length
Well, then he's a good shooter. Walt Berger says three shots tells you if the gun is any good. Five shots tells you if the shooter is any good.
Re: built myself a new indiana legal deer rifle 358bfg
They want to limit the range of the projectile with those hundreds of thousands of hunters hunting on flat land.
That is ONE scary thought of all those guys that only handle a gun one week out of the year blasting away with long range...
