    For a hunting rifle it all depends on how you hunt. For me a lighter uncomplicated rig without junk hanging off or adj this and that with a scope the size of a sewer pipe is handier. One of my best shots was a Coues that jumped from behind a tree at 60yards I had a small window to swing on him...

    Oh for the MEN that had a Lyman American 1" 4X on their 30-06 with a steel but plate and were successful without shooting past 300yds. Don't make em like that anymore, the men or the rifles.

    New to shooting? New to hunting? or New to longer range shooting? First thought is hunt Elk with 30-06, 280REM or 270WIN at least, but that's not what you asked so 308. 308 because longer barrel life otherwise its relatively similar to 6.5CM. Can you get better shooting SS barrel for less money...

    Lead and nitrates

    We are using copper jacketed bullets with polymer or HP tips, not sure we get any exposed lead so wondering if this is even an issue? Been hand loading lead shot since age 5 ( Dad was areal taskmaster) and shot a lot of MZ lead roundball matches at age 62 yet to have ill effects.
