All it takes to fail is .001" but .001 may mean/do nothing. Try some loaded factory ammo in the chamber, if it fits shoot it. Most factory ammo is well below the size of the go gauge.
I must have got a good one, mine shoots about 1.5 MOA with 149gr surplus and a little better with the 130gr MK319. The Springfield M1A I purchased around the same time shot more like 3 MOA.

Around 2007-08 there weren't many manufacturers nitride/melonite treating barrels, LWRC was likely the first and I wasn't far behind. The places like L&M and Bodycote were telling everyone nitride treating barrels with the barrel extensions on the barrels was not a problem, it would not...
Nitride bolt or Black Oxide? I've been telling people for several years that nitride treating bolts or barrel extensions is not a good idea. It softens the bolt and extension lugs and over a period of time they will compress leading to excessive headspace.
Maxim description does not say if...
8 won't stabilize a 90gr SMK either, it you hunt a 70TSX matters but most don't use either. Everyone must make their choice based on the bullets they plan to use, I wouldn't buy a 7 twist if I'm shooting 38gr varmint grenades.
Douglas have always been considered real match grade blanks.
Douglas, Shilen, Pac Nor on the lower end
Krieger, Bartlein, Lilja, Hart on the upper end, Broughton, Rock and some others have retired.
Benchrest and F class guys use special chambers with tight necks to make the brass last longer, less expansion from the factory size. Turning the necks apx 80% will provide a clean release of the bullet.
This book goes into great depth about loading for extreme accuracy-
All I have used since 2000 has been 8 twist barrels, 69s and 77s both shoot well. I had a 22 cal wildcat based on the 6.8 case (5.56x42) that would shoot the 75gr Amax under 1/2" with 4-5 different powders. Jason Peterson shot a 4.5" group at 1200yds at Strategic Edge with the same type of...
Good advice. Springfield isn't the same company now. I've had several M1As over the years and sold them for different reasons. I purchased the 16" SOCOM a few years ago without handling one first. The forward rail clamps around the barrel and there goes the accuracy. I sold it within 6 months.
There are usually 3 things that can cause problems,
gas port through a land slices off more copper on one side of the bullet.
Burr on the crown or crown off center if it has a 45* chamfer
The muzzle has swelled where the 1/2" threads were cut but Steve knows about this issue and in the past has...
