How to put a barrel extension on a barrel

I've been telling people about the problems with nitride treating bolts and extensions since 2012 but they all think they know better and keep doing it. They will all come apart sooner or later and the lugs will compress increasing headspace. Good for them that their warranties only last a year...

    What about FN .264 LICC?

All FN had to do was prove it was a better choice. The fact that FN quickly changed the diameter of the case to the same size as a 308 should say a lot. As for the 6.8x51- " More than 1,000 soldiers provided hands-on feedback over a 27-month weapon testing and selection process. More than 100...

    What about FN .264 LICC?

The military has already tested all caliber AP type bullets at all velocities, that is how they came up with the requirement of a 130gr 6.8 at 3000fps at the muzzle. They could have used a 308 or 7mm but the 6.8 was lighter with a higher BC. They felt anything lighter than a 130 would not hold...

    What about FN .264 LICC?

The more you choke down a cartridge >fat cartridge to small dia bullet the slower burn rate powder has to be used. The slower the powder the longer the barrel needs to be to burn that powder. That is why it takes longer barrels to get the Grendel up to speed. A 30 cal bullet in that 264LICC case...

    What about FN .264 LICC?

They said they want a cartridge that defeats LIV armor at 600yds, the 264LICC can't do that.

How to put a barrel extension on a barrel

That extension should be torqued to 150ft pounds, the alignment pin is only to align the gas port straight up so the gas block will be straight up and the extension lugs will mate with the bolt lugs. Normally the barrel extension is installed, alignment pin installed then the gas port is drilled...

How to put a barrel extension on a barrel

Everything else needs to be done by a real smith, most can't install a new extension or don't have 100 to try until one lines up perfectly with the old gas port. Sometimes it takes an hour to find one close then we face the extension a thou or 2 until it lines up and headspace is correct. In...

    What about FN .264 LICC?

Specialist will likely be the ones who end up with it, just like every other new weapon they have tested they will not be issued to all troops.

    What about FN .264 LICC?

No, really it's like a short AR10 magwel, I believe 2.6" is the max OAL of this new .264 LICC.. FNs MGs have an adjustable feed tray so that's easy.

    What about FN .264 LICC?

Most seem to think so, they believe all military type cartridges developed from now on will be based on these 2 piece case designs or poly and some go as far as saying it will prevent civilians from obtaining true modern military firearms.

    What about FN .264 LICC?

"Also, SIG is proposing a hybrid case 6.5 mm Creedmoor +P+ loaded with a 102 gr EPR bullet launched at 3400 fps... only ~74 in. of bullet drop at 600 yards!" Hybrid case design like the 6.8x51.

    What about FN .264 LICC?

The 264 USA would not fit in a AR15 magwel, the OAL was 2.6". Chris Murray developed the 7mm UIAC based on the 7.62x45 czech as a lwmg round, the AMU took his design and necked it down to .277 and .264. When they turned the 264 USA over to FN, FN changed to a 6.5 GT more or less. FN doesn't...

    What about FN .264 LICC?

The reason FN changed the case diameter as soon as they got involved is because they already had many rifles using cases with that diameter and they have MG links that size that work. Reports said they could not get the velocity needed from a .441 dia case without increasing powder capacity by...

    Ruger SFAR feeding issue.

I'm not concerned about the path of the gas but making the crown perfect. If a crown tool with a pilot is used it only has to be off 1 thou to make the exit edge higher on one side than the other, that will throw bullets. The second part of that is using that type of tool create burrs. The...

    Ruger SFAR feeding issue.

Re: accuracy issues vary rifle to rifle. It would be worth having the barrel recrowned. Do it by single point cutting an 11* crown, Do not use a 1 piece 11 degree crowning tool, DO NOT use a 45 or 60* chamfer. Most all AR barrels would benefit from that type of crown.

6.5 Grendel vs 6.5 creed at 18 inches

So if you drop bullet weight 20grains you should pick up 200fps making it a touch over 2800, and that is what most people see. My CM barrels are 22" but I know chopping them to 18" I lose apx 25fps/inch or 100FPS.

The Creed will be apx 300fps faster shooting the same weight bullet from the same length barrel.
