    primer shortage solution ??

Re: primer shortage solution ?? I watched about 20 seconds of that video. When he mentioned the Hi Point forum I had to shut it off. BTW, there is no primer shortage. There is primer hysteria thanks to the chosen one.

    long 223

Re: long 223 You're right, the Barnes is a mag length bullet. I was addressing the AMax. If you have a SS RRA barrel it would most likely be a 1-8" by Wilson barrels. Even if it is a 1-9" the 70 Barnes would probably shoot fine. Plenty of people shooting 68 and 75 Hornady, 69 and 77 Sierra...

    Cratered primers

Re: Cratered primers One other note about the article I linked above. That was done some years ago before Winchester changed their small rifle primer. They used to handle case pressure much better. I would not recommend it for most of the loads listed, or for any .23 loads for that matter.

    Cratered primers

Re: Cratered primers BTW, forgot to add: cratering won't hurt the firing pin, but a primer piercing will. The gas will erode the tip. Can also ruin the bolt if bad enough.

    Cratered primers

Re: Cratered primers IMHO, CCI 400 isn't a good primer for .223. I would go to something with a harder/thicker cup. Rem 7 1/2, CCI BR4, or CCI 450. Also, knowing the tolerences AR bolts are held to I doubt that you will find a problem there. Could you post a picture? I am wondering if what...

    Cratered primers

Re: Cratered primers Cratered primers is more often a sign of high pressures than a firing pin problem. Some primers will show pressure more than others. One reason I recommend staying away from Winchester primers in the AR with heavy bullets (75 and up). Cases being sooty is normal. Were...

    long 223

Re: long 223 BAD IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The 75 A-Max, Sierra 80, etc are designed to be loaded long. Loading them to be a standard mag length round will cause the bullet to take up alot of case capacity. That will cause pressures to increase greatly. My recommendation would be buy the Sierra...

    223 case priming

Re: 223 case priming I have used both RCBS and Dillon. Dillon is by far a better set-up if you are going to do volume. Cutting the pockets is fine as well for a few cases. Chamfering the pocket doesn't hurt the pocket at all provided you don't go to deep. Take a close look at a factory round...

A hell of a time with OAL!

Re: A hell of a time with OAL! A few things: 1. Yes, you will see variations of .040 in bullet length. Take a handful and check them before you seat them. 2. You may have to change your die set-up because the lock ring moves and/or your not tightening them down the same. FWIW, Redding makes...

Advanced Marksmanship Question on front sight focus..

Re: Question on front sight focus.. Bigbrother: You have hit on why so many of the optical sights are moving onto the battlefield. They take out the need to focus on one object (front sight) while allowing another to be out of focus (target). I DO NOT LIKE THAT MANY PEOPLE BELIEVE EQUIPMENT...

    New Formula Reloder 15

Re: New Formula Reloder 15 Its been made in the US for about 3 years. I go through 20-30 pounds of it a year and have not noticed any changes signifigant changes since I started using it 10 years ago. FWIW, I believe the change had alot to do with the military using it for 7.62 sniper/match...

Advanced Marksmanship Illustrations of proper shooting positions ?

Re: Illustrations of proper shooting positions ? I would advise you to wait for the USAMU manual. While the sitting position in the pics looks good, neither the standing nor the prone positions pictured are very good at all. In fact they both have some very fundamental flaws in them. While...
