New McMillan HTG M40A1 smear stocks!!!

Yes, I forgot that one. They might have used some other stuff as well, I know they tested Leatherwood scopes on some A1 prototypes.

New McMillan HTG M40A1 smear stocks!!!

Redfield greenies, matte black, and Widefield scopes were used by the Marines on the Transitional M40A1's from 1977 to 1982. The Marines received 25 prototype Unertl MST-100 scopes in 1980, but didn't start receiving the regular production Unertl MST-100 scopes until 1982. From 1977 to 1982, all...

U.S. marked clip slotted 40x action?

I tried to be nice, I complemented your rifle, I clearly said that my post was my opinion and other people's opinions might very on this topic. And you respond with a passive aggressive attitude. Yeah man, sure, go call these companies and tell them they're wrong. You don't need my permission to...

U.S. marked clip slotted 40x action?

Nice custom rifle, but that's all it is, a custom rifle. There is absolutely no way that it's an M40A5 clone. It looks like a very nice rifle, and you're probably going enjoy it for a long time, but there's no reason to call it an M40A5. This designation and nomenclature actually means...

You are truly living the good life, I tip my hat to you, sir!

U.S. marked clip slotted 40x action?

Tiny has a very good reputation, I've never once heard a negative thing about him. So he's definitely good to go as a gunsmith! I've shot original XM3's that were built by him, and they always shot about half an MOA at 100 yards. I'd love to hear what he has to say about the PTG receivers and...

    1903A1 USMC Clone Questions

You could build a better A4 clone for less, this isn't a rifle I'd recommend to someone looking for an A4 clone. Just my opinion though.

    1903A1 USMC Clone Questions

Except that the OP wants to build a 1903A1 USMC sniper clone, which is a completely different rifle than a 1903A3/4. He would need a regular old 1903 as the base for a 1903A1 clone, not a 1903A3/4.

U.S. marked clip slotted 40x action?

No Model 700 had the trademark, only the 40-X receivers had it.

U.S. marked clip slotted 40x action?

That's because the Model 700's didn't have the trademark, only the 40-X had it. Since the trademark is missing on OP's "40---X" receiver, it stands to reason that it's a remarked Model 700 receiver (alone with other defining characteristics).

U.S. marked clip slotted 40x action?

You make a good point about the Model 40---X alignment on OP's receiver vs. known Remington original 40-X receivers. Here's the OP's receiver (top) vs. an original Remington receiver that's unmodified (bottom). You can check the markings on OP's receiver vs. all of the unmodified Remington 40-X...

U.S. marked clip slotted 40x action?

It could very well be that PTG welded up the 700 and remarked it with 40-X. Here's the OP's PTG receiver, notice how long the dash between the 40 and the X is, that's not normal. Also notice how there's no registered trademark symbol to the left of the word Remington. All of the regular 40X...

U.S. marked clip slotted 40x action?

I actually took a screenshot of your post and sent it to a few collector buddies (some of them are on this forum). We've been having a good laugh over it, the coincidence and irony hasn't been lost to us, lol. One friend sent me this reply - "Hahaha that’s what you get," when I told him that PTG...

U.S. marked clip slotted 40x action?

That could very well be what happened, at this point I would almost expect PTG to do something like that

U.S. marked clip slotted 40x action?

Yep, extremely weird that a Remington 40X has a Model 700 serial number. I've never seen that before. No idea how something like that happened

U.S. marked clip slotted 40x action?

The serial number on your receiver? It's definitely not from 1968. The S prefix is from sometime in the 2000's. You're only looking at the 7 digits after the S prefix, which would put it right after the Model 700 serial number changes that took place in 1968. However, you need to include that S...

U.S. marked clip slotted 40x action?

Silly me, that's where I left that fucking rifle! This is beyond ridiculous at this point, lol Yeah, that's my rifle, but the photo is from the CMP. I don't know what the CMP photo usage policy is, but that isn't an informational forum post. They should get approval from the CMP to use their...

U.S. marked clip slotted 40x action?

It's a real Remington receiver, they're not faking entire receivers from scratch. They're just fucking with existing Remington receivers. What's interesting is that Remington gave a 40X receiver a Model 700 (stainless) serial number. 40X serial numbers and Model 700 serial numbers are in...

U.S. marked clip slotted 40x action?

Just poking around PTG's website to see what interesting items they have. Holy fuck, these guys are insane! I dare you guys to read this product description for their "M40" rifle stocks without laughing out loud! I don't even know where the fuck to begin with this one. Apparently "Quantico"...
