Procedure to Tune load at 600 yds.

Vertical “flat spots” on paper don’t happen because of actual velocity flat spots. More powder = more speed

    AMP Press now in stock!!

Possibly. Like most things…..some of it flies in the face or established “never do that.”

    AMP Press now in stock!!

I’m finding things quite interesting with my press. Things you think are very consistent (same careful process piece to piece of brass) end up looking like a seismograph. Will he range testing more to confirm, but stumbling upon some processes that are very consistent (and much less work than...

    25 vs 50 yard zero

The issue is, past 30-35yds…..depending on wind and such, your zero can be fairly different when changing locations. I used to zero at 50yds. And shot at two different locations where the typical wind here was at different directions at the zero range for each location. I was almost always...

    25 vs 50 yard zero

Key to shorter range zero is one shot at each target. Once your group is centered, start shooting one round for each POA. When you’re zero’d you’ll center punch every time. And not have to worry with interpreting groups at close range.

    SD/ES on 300 grain 338 lapua magnum

Same as anything else. If you’re planning on shooting extended distances, the goal changes from acceptable sd/es and small groups, to acceptable groups and a small sd/es. Depending on the distance, 10fps can make an moa change in vertical.

    Essential gear for new guy?

While I own and use a chrono, it’s the most overrated piece of equipment out there. There’s almost nothing you can’t do without one. If it’s a common cartridge and you use common charge weights….safety isn’t a concern. You can get dope without it. And, as long as you use a halfway decent load...

    Load Dev and Magneto Speed

As far as opinions on the load “development”, (I mean this in the least offensive way possible) what you will be doing is the equivalent of putting charge weights on a pin wheel, spinning it, and loading whatever it lands on. There are exactly zero shooters who have been able to provide long...

    AMP Press now in stock!!

The cycle is complete on the down stroke. The up is his returning the ram. Won’t hurt it.

Kraft Data Driven Training: Try This

Whatever you want to work on. If wanting to work on locked in, go for it. Also, I personally think it’s easier to shoot off a bag. Running a tripod locked in and shooting small is a skill of its own.

Kraft Data Driven Training: Try This

Everything in positional looked fine. Slight bend in knees is fine. As long as your bones are doing the support and not your muscles. Prone, check out Velayo’s video on “building the bridge”. That’ll square away very small issue with prone. And, we don’t always control height of barricades...

Advanced Marksmanship Reticle shifting straight up under recoil today.

One of two things. Either that’s your natural point of aim and it’s finding it way there naturally as your body moves. Or it’s the natural point of aim and the vibrations from the firing pin spring are enough to settle it in. It’s likely from not attaching yourself to the rifle and then...

    Fire Forming Question

Yes, it will “move” or expand less once fireformed. Keep in mind, depending on the brass and chamber, it may take more than one firing to fully fireform where you need minimally size the case for proper function.

    Reloading Dev and Muzzle Brakes

What spife said. “Ladder” tests were (still are) very common. They entailed what was mentioned above. Shooting targets at whatever distance deemed suitable for the individual. And looking for charge weights that exhibit the same or very close to the same POI. This was done without a chrono...

What did you do in the reloading room today?

For me, yes. Worst case, even if turns out the data isn’t all that practical…..I never have work a handle again to seat bullets. Multiply that by thousands of rounds a year and it’s completely worth the price for me.

    Load Dev and Magneto Speed

And now we know why you haven’t found a flat spot.

    Load Dev and Magneto Speed

Pretty easy to spend $160 in ammo swapping things. Considering you’ll spend as much or more in extra ammo over time, I’d much rather have the v3 display box.

    Reloading Dev and Muzzle Brakes

Do your velocity flat spot test 10 times. See if the flat spots stays the same. Think about the logic behind this. You’re adding powder, but velocity (and pressure) doesn’t increase? Explain how that works unless you’re at the point where you can’t get anymore velocity (and then you’ll be at a...

What did you do in the reloading room today?

For about 4 or 5 days now.
