    effective load for 7mm 1:8 24' barrel

Depends on the deer. A good 140 grain bullet is more than capable for any whitetail deer. The tried and true speer 130 grain bullet has a well earned reputation from a 7x57 or 7-08. Your fast twist would be too much for that though. The 160 class are definitely a nice weight for the old RM, but...

    Carbon Barrels

Would you consider switching to 6 ARC? I think you could get where you want to go by both reducing barrel weight and powder charge. The reduced powder charge will slow the development of mirage. I concur with poster above that you could forego the CF and just move to a light varmint/heavy magnum...

    MullerWorks Barrels Update

I've heard the Mullerworks have closed shop. Any truth to that rumor?

How much and how long does it take for a gun smith to chamber a custom barrel for an action?

Time frame is dependent on barrel availability.

    concealed carry choice

    Let's see. I've carried a commander size 1911, CZ83, S&W performance center 686+ snubbie, model 657, model 49, a colt model 1903 pocket hammerless. Currently, I'm favoring a smith 4" model 64.

    Analysis Paralysis....again

Thanks for the info, do you think there is 600-800 dollars performance difference? It's going on a future rifle build for a long range rifle for fun. I'm just a cheap bastard by nature, but I do like good glass and positive adjustments.

    Analysis Paralysis....again

Thanks, that is the type of input I'm looking for. To the other respondents: thank you as well flr your input. I prefer the Zeiss reticle, I like the less cluttered image. I should have mentioned it before, but one of the reasons I'm looking at these two scopes is the massive adjustment range. I...

    Analysis Paralysis....again

So, I recently decided to buy myself a new optic for a future build. I have been eyeballing the Tract 4-25x50 and the Zeiss 4-25x50. They both share a very similar footprint in length and objective lens diameter. The Tract is heavier, it has yardage marks on the parallax (not the most important...

Remington 700 Short Action Chassis Recommendations

The ones that I happen to use are AICS and magpul, depending on rifle. I'm primarily shooting ammo loaded to SAAMI overall length.

Remington 700 Short Action Chassis Recommendations

There is a lot of difference between the magpul hunter and the magpul pro. What you say is very similar to my feelings concerning the bravo. I like the bravo, but I upgraded to the pro on two of my rifles because I didn't care for the recoil impulse with the bravo on cartridges with more recoil.

EA-18G Growler From Whidbey NAS Crashes East of Mt. Ranier

USS Guardian comes to mind. Throughout Naval History there are plenty of instances of ships running aground, captained by men. Or, how about one of the most technogically advanced submarines in the world surfacing under a fishing vessel, sinking it?

    Trading a tacoma for subaru….

Bullshit, the honda has a bed capacity of 1500 pounds, which is best in class(medium truck). It has a towing capacity of 5000 pounds. It's a honda, it will run forever. 95% of truck owners don't do any serious hauling Chevy trucks are trash. Ram trucks are trash, Ford trucks are trash. Toyota...

Vortex not zeroing after warranty service?

I am the king of shit coming loose. It happens, I've chased my tail more than once, only to find out something came loose. I have literally had every screw on a bolt action rifle come loose at one time or another, I'm talking torqued to spec and even locited in place. I've had the cap screws...

    Replace factory S&B projectiles?

You may want to pick up a Lee factory crimp die and put a lite crimp on the new bullet.

Viper barrel vise for scope mounting?

Yes, it will work. I would suggest removing the barreled action from the stock to reduce the pressure on the barrel and the leverage that may cause unsteadiness in your setup.
