    If they had used a manners or mcmillan they probably wouldn't be having the stock issues. Dry film moly lube is your friend in climates like that. I concur with the postulation of changing temps inside/outside.

    I run an alcohol patch followed by a dry patch on my work rifle. I find it helps prevent a cold bore shift. My other rifles, I leave a light coat of Hoppes #9 in the bore. Penetrating oil works well too. Needs to be cleaned out prior to shooting.

    I have seen some 1-7 twist barrels that couldn't shoot 55's worth a shit (ball type ammo), since we are talking a stash of 55's, I'm guessing most are M193 loads, generally about 4 moa loads out of a good rifle.     Besides the retarded belt, the issues with the WM are that factory chambers are not cut to optimize high bc bullets. That may, or may not be an issue. The advantage of the WM is quality brass availability. Hell you can pick up good, once fired range brass.

    My Dad took two elk with the 6.5x55. A 6.5 CM will do it, but bullet selection is paramount. Some folks have taken elk with a 5.56 mk 262 load, and several use the 6.8 SPC.
