    resizing range pickup 5.56 brass

If you're a brasshole who can't pass up a case you find on the range here's a technique that will save you all kinds of ass-pain: get a small-base sizing die and use a Sheridan case gage (especially in something like a 650 or 750, or equipped with an automatic case feeder). Why? You won't...

AR-10 Precision Rifle Shopping - Need Some Input & Advice

Like any other rifle system, factory-made isn't going to compare to a custom build. Seekins and GAP are closer to small-shop assembled guns vice big factory production turning out dozens to hundreds per day. What's your budget and (as you mentioned) what's your patience limit if having one...

    Steel Target Range Setup

There are a few different ways. You can lay out (as mentioned above) a single bank of targets with firing berms at different distances. Your target cost will be less but you'll need to change firing points for training and gathering data. Another method is to put targets at known, measured...

What’s the art behind hunting rifle accuracy

There's a reason sniper rifles have heavier barrels. First shot consistency is a premium when your targets can kill you at the same distance you're shooting at them. A friend asked why my hunting rifle is a Remington 700 Varmint. "How many rounds do you usually load in your rifle, and how...

    Range card DIY “overlay”?

There used to be transparency sheets you could run through a laser printer to make overlays. No idea if they still carry that kind of thing at Staples or the big box office stores. You can make your own with acetate or a document protector and a fine-tip Sharpie pen.

    Navy NSWC Crane M83

Besides the M83 there were a few other SOF rifles with McMillan (Anschutz-style) Prone and Baker Special stocks. Delta plank-holder Sergeant Major (retired) Norm Crawford shot for years with McMillan Baker Special stocks at work, Camp Perry, and as a member of the United States Palma Team. I...

    Navy NSWC Crane M83

SOCOM hits and misses like anyone else's procurement system. Mother Army would have NEVER bought a bigger than 300 Win Mag system if it wasn't for USASOC. It's always better to have Mother Army buy gadgets and modify / hot-rod them for commando purposes. Limited funds go farther when someone...

Suppressors Mk12 suppressor history - OPS Inc, Allen Engineering, etc.

My Special Forces company had a number of "Crazy Phil's" OPS INC cans for our CAR-15s. Once Mike Haugen retired from the Army and became the Remington Military Division Rep (and later VP), there's a reason M24A2 was fitted with OPS suppressors. They were simply the best available (capability...

Why would a scope be made with MOA turrets and Mil-Dot reticle

Hey, Fokker! I resemble that! :ROFLMAO: Simple Redfield ranging hairs. Bracket an 18-inch space (shoulders to solar plexus, nuts to nipples, or nipples to top of noggin), shoot it, kill it. Other variations:

Why would a scope be made with MOA turrets and Mil-Dot reticle

The M21 sniper rifle's Leatherwood Automatic Ranging Telescope hashes subtended 30 inches -- roughly (but not quite) nuts to top of noggin of a GI E-type silhouette. An E-type is closer to 1 Meter, but when I went to sniper school we only shot to 600 yards with the M21. It was close enough.

    Reloading Perfecta brass?

I took this picture of the shitty flash holes in Perfecta 5.56mm brass. I can't imagine they do anything for precision or consistency. There are two generic Federal cases there for comparison. Someone else's photo:

Why would a scope be made with MOA turrets and Mil-Dot reticle

Military binoculars had mil reticles for ground and anti-aircraft artillery adjustment (as well as range determination) in WWII (if not earlier). Marines adapted the mil-dot reticle for rifle shooting in the Unertl sniper scope. American military riflemen shot on Known Distance rifle ranges...
