    Navy NSWC Crane M83

Not so much parochialism as capacity and availability. All Marine Corps M40s were custom-built by Precision Weapons Battalion 2112 Armorers and gunsmiths. Their schedules and capacity were full keeping up with internal demand. Starting in 1985, Army met their requirements by buying the...

    MP5

I have a three-digit MP5 SBR conversion originally sold as an HK94 as well. It has the original HK94 stamping on the receiver. The Form 4 and NFA Registry says it is an MP5 SBR. Simple Green and water make a good-fair solvent -- just be sure to rinse it off thoroughly and lube. As stated...

    New (to me) Remington 40X

If it's engraved "U.S." it's a surplused Army rifle (vice "USMC"). Yours looks like mine from around 2010 -- medium taper barrel and the Remington 700 back-swept bolt handle (as opposed to the straight 721-722 handle). It should shoot really straight and tight with almost any ammo. I paid the...

Precision AR -15 10 shot moa groups

Take off the bipod and shoot off of bags. The longer lock time of an AR hammer trigger compared to a striker-fired bolt action is enough to throw off new precision AR shooters. Couple that with a wobbly bipod and you're giving away stability.

MK 12 Picture & Discussion Thread

For DMRs and SPRs we don't shoot 80s for slow-fire. The majority of the ammo through DMRs will be M855A1. Through SPRs mostly 77s. Really depends on the customer and training audience. I think my last personal SPR barrels have been Satern Liberty, Roscoe, and White Oak. Wannabe SPR. Needs...

MK 12 Picture & Discussion Thread

USAMU used/made both during my time there (a while ago). Depends on what blanks were in the supply room. Proof is in the performance. Every single USAMU build gets tested -- there's no wondering whether or not the build was right.

What is your finished barrel diameter behind the threads? Otter Creek Labs makes a one-piece thread-on mount that may do what you want (possibly the one Allegheny offered above).

    Carbon Barrel cracked??

Apropo of nothing, here's a rando vid (re: cryo treatment) on how Krieger does their barrels. Extreme cold shouldn't necessarily affect a well-done carbon fiber wrap based on aero and space applications.

FULL LENGTH SIZING AND BRASS HYSTERESIS

The point of annealing is to stress-relieve the work-hardened neck and shoulders to reduce splits. Here's a case diagram (lower left) that shows the hardness gradient of standard GI 5.56 brass. As the cases are drawn you want the head to be hard and the shoulders and necks softer. For...

5;56 velocity change and don't know why

How many rounds down the barrel? As your throat advances you'll get some blow-by. How old is the powder? All nitrocellulose powders start to decompose the moment they're manufactured. Diphenylamine is usually added as a preservative but it can't stop oxidation.

FULL LENGTH SIZING AND BRASS HYSTERESIS

From Stevenson 's (and others), every time a case is sized the case grows and the case walls thin. It was interesting to read firing has more of a work-hardening effect than sizing. The spinning the case in a drill while holding to a torch flame (without a temperature or time standard) was...

A friendly accuracy challenge. Beat the match conditioned M14's/M1A's! (Piston-driven rifles)

Great group and placement. Hun targets are tough as there's really no distinct aiming point to reference. The iron sight AR-10 and SR-25 left the long range M14 behind them almost 20 years ago.

FULL LENGTH SIZING AND BRASS HYSTERESIS

There are a number of possible fixes for the poors who scavenge range brass or are gifted machinegun brass. Anneal first. 1. Try small base dies. 2. Try sizing first with a 30-06 small base body die, then size again with a 308 small base die. 3. Spend more money on a custom Warner Tool...

How has your mail service been lately? USPS thread

Georgia mail service ranks last in the nation behind all states and territories according to the USPS Inspector General. They suck. It saddens me since my dad is a retiree of both the Army and the USPS. The postal service is not the same organization as when he worked there. A travesty as...
