powder fps variation from batch to batch

Re: powder fps variation from batch to batch I've seen lot to lot vary by hardly any to over 120 fps variation. When you switch lots, you need to test the fps again. I have not had any issue with the group size changing, just the fps, which was surprising. I switched lots of H4350 in my 260...

    basic dies or?

Re: basic dies or? You can make good ammo with your basic dies. I did it for a year or two for my personal match ammo when I first got started. But the match dies allow you to control more of the sizing and bullet seating. I like the Redding competition dies. If you plan to shoot...

    .308 D46 RL17

Re: .308 D46 RL17 R17 would be good for a 185 grain. I've been playing with Alliant's Power Pro 2000MR. The burn rate is between R15 and R17, and was designed specifically for max velocity for 175 grain and heavier weight bullets in a 308. It is a ball/spherical powder, so you will be able to...

    Temperature Stable Powder Test!!

Re: Temperature Stable Powder Test!! Yes, I like my Hodgdon extreme powders. But, even if you use a well known powder that might be more temp sensitive, it is very predictable. I shot R22 in my 300 WM for many years, because it shot so well. Once you test it some, you can figure it out fairly...

    Hunting & Fishing 208 A Max Kills?

Re: 208 A Max Kills? Here's a video from a few years ago. We were hunting from a ridge top and some does finally came out right before dark. The feeder in the background is exactly 300 yards, and she was at 280. 208 A-max at about ~2900 fps from a TRG 42 in 300WM. <object width="425"...

300 RUM why aren't they used in 1000 yd cop

Re: 300 RUM why aren't they used in 1000 yd cop It's a decent option if you shoot slow. When you have to put multiple rounds down range in a short time frame, you're going to cook the barrel. 100+ grains of powder gets a barrel hot quick. It's a good option for 1000 + yards with the new 225...

    Range Report Ammo Accuracy

Re: Ammo Accuracy I also like 100 and 300. I test most loads at 300. 300 will minimize any wind effects, and most all bullets have settled down by 300 yards. Once I find a good load, I like to test it on paper zero'd at 100 and out to about 400-600 yards. Then I know for sure it is a good load.

    1760 with a 300wsm

Re: 1760 with a 300wsm You're going to need as much BC as possible for a WSM. Like stated, Hornady's 225 BTHP would be good, and Berger's new 230 grain would be good. The Berger has more BC, so I'd look that route. You will have to load it long and onto the lands, so you will have to single...
