    Spin Drift

Bryan Litz has been awarded a .mil contract "to advance the state of the art in long range rifle shooting" https://www.ammoland.com/2018/03/applied-ballistics-wins-military-rd-contract/#axzz5DtmJ5ldS This of course includes doppler radar testing, yadda, yadda... (I think all current US sniper...

    Spin Drift

My take is that serious, extensive, in depth (OK, expensive) studies with doppler radar and ranges with advanced wind measured downrange (or advanced wind barriers) are needed with the new modern bullets that are being used/proposed for ELR. These tests and studies should ideally be carried out...

Maximum Length of Spin Stabilized Projectile by Beat Kneubuehl

Sorry, I forgot to post the link to the calculator based on the McDrag: Would you take a look at it? It is on Geoffrey Kolbe (Border Barrels) site. http://www.geoffrey-kolbe.com/drag.htm

Excellent! Jim, what's your opinion of this calculator based on the "McDrag" program?

    Wind Gradients

Of course wind velocity varies above ground. But not only is tricky to try to estimate the wind velocity above the LOS, but also you have to rememberr that the closer to the muzzle, the most effect wind has on the bullet deflection...

    Rifle Scopes *JUST RELEASED* Nightforce NX8 FFP 1-8x24mm 30mm Tube & ATACR F1 1-8x24mm 34mm Tube Models

What does the ATACR brings to the table over the NX8? The exit pupil of the NX8 seems veeery small at 1X, only 7.9 mm, have anyone tried it? The old NXS 1-4x24 has a whopping 16 mm exit pupil at 1X. The ATACR exit pupil is 11.3 mm at 1X, not great but certainly better. BTW, if the objective...

    Measuring scope height

Keep in mind that a 0.1" error in scope height measurement, with a 100 yds baseline zero, only means a 0.9" error at 1000 yds, or 1.5" at 1600 yds. Since this small error is so small compared to POI variations due to the accuracy of the ballistic program and the effect of real world conditions...

Range Report .22-250 1:14 twist Heaviest bullet?

I've shot M855/SS109 pulled bullets in 20" to 24", 1-10" twist barrels, loaded to 223 Rem specs, with good results. Altitude 300 ft ASL, temp. 70º+ F. Also factory and reloaded ammo with 69 gr Sierra match king HPBT bullets, very accurate.

Rifle Scopes how much elevation does 1/2" height delta at scope translate to at 100 yards?

Make sure the mount slopes towards the front (lower towards the front)... perhaps it is mounted backwards.

    Rifle Scopes Mrad IS Meteric

bbrah, All the technical drawings of guns made outside the US are metric, including rifling specs, chambers and small parts. The base of all the "standard" modern rifle service rounds like the 30-06, 308, etc. is 12 mm (.473") because it comes from the grandaddy of them all, the 8x57 german...

    KAC USMC M110 Carbine

That's is obviously the answer, since the graduations won't match anything and won't be of any help anyway. The people at Knight's should provide the angular come ups between the various distance settings, at one or two different sight radius, with a recommended eye relief. IF you mount the...

    KAC USMC M110 Carbine

Nice rifle! But when I see a 45º BUIS mounted like in the original post picture, I wonder why use a 200-600 m marked rear sight, that is not regulated for 308, and that needs a specific eye relief and rear-front sight radius to work in anything other than one setting.

Range Report Horizontal Coriolis - Computing Average Velocity

Just remember coriolis drift depends on angle of repose of the particular bullet (that also depends on rifling twist and other factors), so you are merely estimating with this formula...

Rifle Scopes Xerowind - Scope That Measures Wind Downrange (No Kidding)

The one I know about is this, don't know the price or if they sell it to the public: Venom It still has a few quirks to solve: - It is a little slow for some conditions that change rapidly. - Wind measurement is made along the optical path, not the ballistic path. Depending on the case, large...

Texas man hits 1 MOA target at 2.07 miles

IMO, getting first round hits at 2000+ m on torso sized targets, on demand, is where the hobby world that "pushes the limits" would truly have something to expand the current tactical capabilities. For this to happen, though, we need a portable, real time dowrange wind measurement, at several...
