    Rifle Scopes Octagonal tubes?

It would be a bit difficult to get an octagon shape in a lathe, with even tube thickness... and if you use extruded stock, then you cannot make the main tuve (complete with turret bases) one piece.

Rifle Scopes Vortex not publishing exit pupil?

That formula holds true for maximun magnification, but most of the time at the low settings the exit pupil is smaller than OBJ diameter/mag power. You'll notice that many makers astutely simply omit those pesky numbers, specially in scopes with zoom larger than 4X, and even more in scopes with...

Did some testing of a solid today... @ 1k.

Very nice idea the bullet material, mini grooves and gain twist. Noel, do the depth of the rifling intrudes ever so slightly into the bullet body as well?

Rifle Scopes Does Your SWFA SS 10X42 Resolve .30 Cal Holes at 200 Yards?

It is very difficult to resolve 30 cal bullet holes with clarity at 200 yds with a 10X SS scope, much easier with a 16X SS, and MUCH easier with top grade optics of the same magnification.

Question regarding full value wind on elevation

Thanks a lot David, this is a very well know issue at short ranges. For people interested in a technical perspective, see chapter 10 of "rifle accuracy facts" by H.R.Vaughn. The vertical drift will vary with the BC and velocity, as well as the gyroscopic stability, etc. But now, for LONG...

    World Record Shoot

THIS. Or a least an IPSC size target over the 40"x40" or so backboard. And please be candid over how many tries to set up the shot, zeroing shots, how many rounds to get a hit, etc. Good luck, and please report the news!

Best flip up sites for my LMT

Iron sights can be zeroed at a certain distance, but for the other settings to work you need an specific distance between the front and rear sights, AND an specific distance from the rear sight to the eye. And of course your load trayectory must match the elevations built into the other...

Rifle Scopes Any cons to Leupold and Redfield twist and lock type rings and bases?

IMO, there are far better options to mount a scope. The rear windage screw is a weak spot, easy to disadjust, easy to overtorque, easy to stress the scope if you are not very meticulous.

Range Report Barrel length vs muzzle velocity vs accuracy test

Perhaps you missed this part: "Group size was measured with a micrometer. Five shot groups were used to measure accuracy. Firing was conducted on standard IPSC silhouette targets at all ranges." It doesn't matter the size of the target, it is the size of the groups that matters. And if you...

Range Report Barrel length vs muzzle velocity vs accuracy test

I doubt someone would have the means and time for a truly "scientific" test... this is a sample of one, but very well done. Perhaps a different barrel (even from the same maker) would probably give slightly different results, both in accuracy and velocity. Add many more factory and custom loads...

Rifle Scopes What size tube would you prefer on your new scope? 30/34mm

You select the scope that suits your needs and budget, the diameter of the main tube comes along and you live with it...

Rifle Scopes Remington 20/20 --- Tracking Point Addition

Currently for up to 500 yds or so, a decent range finder and a ballistic reticle o turret cam (well graduated for the load) will do the trick for the relatively unsophisticated hunting crowd. For really unshophisticated folks probably nothing will work realiably, but that is not goint to stop...

    hit probabiltity at extended ranges

wadcutter, in this "sniper" context a true first shot should not be influenced by the observation of the impacts of the guy next to you in the firing line, or conversation with all observers... just saying :) It would be very interesting to see a bunch of team of sniper + spotter teams get in...

Range Report AMU does it again

Yup, we (read: paraguayans) not only won the cup but also captured the first three places in our last internal games :D

Range Report AMU does it again

Congrats to the AMU! But best in the world? Were they shooting against teams from other countries or is a "world series" like baseball? :)

Most accurate. 50 BMG on market.

Not too bad for an off the shelf rifle, with a hammer forged barrel nonetheless... :) Probably has a longer barrel life than most other rifles of this kind, too.

Rifle Scopes Scope Tracking Target MIL

I just put a measuring tape at 100 m, or quickly mark lines every 10 cm on the paper... :) IMO the scope tracking test should be done first with the rifle settled on sandbags, vice of something like that, and just moving the turrets, A LOT, left/rigth, up/down, NOT firing.

    Rifle Scopes Unleash the Beast...

Another trend I don't like is putting too many clicks in one turn. I would be perfectly happy with a nice round number like 10 mils per revolution, BIG spaced, solid, audible, clicks, and a second/third turn indicator. How many people really are shooting at 1500+ m? And need a second shot...

Range Report Best twist for M855?

The 1-10" barrels were 20" and 24". The 24" 1-10" barrel shoots 69 gr SMK VERY well, and the M855 bullets are about the same length, so stabilization should be no problem. This is in warm weather near sea level. Some of the bullets were M855, and some were similar but from other makers.
