Actual Accuracy of 22lr Premium Rifles

Thanks, JAS-SH. I was unaware a term had been developed for this situation. Without a motionless relationship between crosshairs and POA, shooting consistently is impossible.

Actual Accuracy of 22lr Premium Rifles

Indeed. It's always about the ammo. ______________________________________ In general, just as performance at 50 varies by lot, performance with increasing distance varies by lot. One lot of CX, for example, may do well at 50 and 100 and beyond, while another lot of CX may do well at 50 but...

With regard to .22LR, can you elaborate on what's meant by a rifle being "asleep"?

Slower then expected speed from SK std+

Bores can remain different even after lapping. For example, two lapped bores can produce different results with the same ammo -- even if they are the same length. The main causes of different average muzzle velocities for the same lots of ammo start with temperature and bore characteristics...

Slower then expected speed from SK std+

There are several factors that explain why SK Standard Plus or any .22LR match ammo MV averages differ. 1. As noted above by others, temperature plays a significant role. MV averages for ammo from the same lot rise or fall with temperature. 2. Different bores, even of the same length, may...

RimX vertical stringing from Lapua test center lot testing

This is absolutely true. It may not please shooters who hope a tuner will provide a quick and inexpensive way to improve the performance of inexpensive-to-middling ammo, but it's always important to remember there are no shortcuts in rimfire. Nobody should think they can begin to tune a .22LR...

Match Extra and Match Target were also made by SK Jagd. The SK factory continued to make ammo branded as Wolf until about 4-5 years ago when Wolf .22LR ammo began to be made by Eley.

Wolf Match Gold was made in Germany at the SK Jagd factory.

New Lapua Long Range and Super Long Range (Announced)

It's a better shape for more reliable loading with biathlon repeating rifles. Below, left, an image of Lapua Polar Biathlon. On the right is an image of the Center X, Midas +, X-Act round. Note the difference in bullet shape.

    Fast Twist- where are we?

To answer the second question first, no .22LR ammo can improve performance as distance increases -- except by unpredictable circumstances that can't necessarily be repeated on demand. Regarding the question of quantifiable numbers, perhaps their absence with regard to long distance fast twist...

New Lapua Long Range and Super Long Range (Announced)

SK isn't a grade of Lapua ammo. It is SK ammo. While they may be visually similar and their casings may share the same headstamp, they are made on different production lines, one exclusively for SK, another for Lapua. Every component that goes into match ammo is graded into batches or lots...

New Lapua Long Range and Super Long Range (Announced)

What are some lot numbers for the new Long Range and Super Long Range? They may indicate whether there's any new loading machines in use as well if the bullet is different from the one used in CX, M+, and X-Act.

New Lapua Long Range and Super Long Range (Announced)

That's a good observation. When SK LRM was introduced, SK ballistics charts had it at 1106 fps or 337m/s (see bottom of image below). SK may have been new to long range shooting styles, saying it was designed for the increasingly popular shooting discipline of "PRC". By 2020, the charts had...

If nothing else, this video may win the internet prize for first video test of the new Lapua long range ammo. As a test, it's no more than inconclusive with no more than one box of one lot of each new variety tested.

Actual Accuracy of 22lr Premium Rifles

While it's possible to shoot 0.5 MOA at 200 with .22LR, such a result is most likely the result of random accuracy. If a shooter shoots enough groups at 200, eventually he'll have a 1" five-shot group. But it's unlikely he can repeat it when required. A ballistics calculator shows that each...

New Lapua Long Range and Super Long Range (Announced)

FWIW, according to an accurateshooter.com bulletin dated January 15, 2023, "Ammo Availability: Lapua’s new Long Range rimfire offerings will soon be available at authorized Lapua retailers for delivery by the end of the first quarter of 2023." That suggests it will begin to be available...

Actual Accuracy of 22lr Premium Rifles

Hit or miss is a binary issue. If it's a simple "hit or miss" -- one small dot or the intersection of two lines at 50 yards, for example -- it's either a yes or a no. If it's a miss, it must be a "no". A lot of shooters will do a lot of missing what they aim at. Scoring with X's, 10's...

New Lapua Long Range and Super Long Range (Announced)

It must be as it can't be done with .22LR. Swapping bullets on 22 mag isn't new. CF 22 cal is the same diameter as .22WMR.

New Lapua Long Range and Super Long Range (Announced)

That's incredible. You say he puts a .22 cal centerfire bullet in a .22LR case and recrimps it. It would be revealing to see how he fits a centerfire bullet with a diameter of .224" inside a .22LR case that has a smaller inside diameter.
