Gunsmithing Custom action or trued R700

I am getting close to 3 dozen custom Remingtons. They are all blueprinted and they all shoot better than I can. This horseshit about a blueprinted R700 not shooting is just that...Bad workmanship=Horse shit. Barrel not coming straight off the action...G-ZUZ! God help us there are some...

What did I do wrong? (Case failure.)

Forget the crimp...I shoot rifles up to 416 Rigby without a crimp. Ejector marks mean the load is too hot. If this load has been fired 6 times why do I only see 1-2 ejector marks? Did you change bullets or perhaps another component with this load? As the others suggested I suspect you are...

    Frustration! Lake city brass

Why? I have many rifles headspaced with a tight crush fit (much tighter than Saami spec and shooting factory wont happen). Often I have had to resort to having the sizer base trimmed...No big deal. If you are running a Co-Ax (I am) you have no choice anyway.

    Digital Scale

Al things considered you cant beat the Chargemaster. Once you get it dialed for your load it works superbly. The 503 is the Rolls Royce, but you pay a lot more for very small gain. You better be shooting something like a 6mmbr to see the difference. There is nothing more accurate or...

Great groups at 500 yds but crappy ES

Though it is possible it is not likely that you would shoot a 1/2" vertical at 500 yards with a 40fps ES. JBM gave me 1.6 inches with your bullet and velocity...or about 9 inches at 1000yds. I have money the problem is a chrono setup issue. Beg borrow or steal a heavy duty tripod and make up a...

    Bad primers or something else?

If the gun fails to go bang with factory loads you have a gun problem.

FL sizer vs neck + body sizer - both with bushings?

+2 on what going hot says. I used to run bushing dies....I have come to prefer normal FL dies with a custom neck sizer Forster makes custom full length body size dies for about 30 bucks or so. Doing this also allows you to rid yourself of the decapper/button for much truer brass. As an added...

    Quickload underestimating velocity

Different bullets types, but of the same weight give different velocities....Same goes for barrels and chambers...They all make a difference. Velocity and pressure however are inseparably connected...you can not have one without the other. Berger list a max of 89.5grs of Retumbo for 2680fps...

    Frustration! Lake city brass

LC brass is as tough as nails and pretty damn hard. Normal headspace die settings wont work as the LC brass just bounces back significantly after resizing. Running the press fast will make the headspace BIGGER yet. Doubting Thomas types try this before you open your mouths. I would anneal a...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Spartan Blades alternative?

Have a look at Cold Steel's knives...pretty hard to go wrong there. To get a little better knife you have to pay a lot more money. Before the flaming starts yes, I'm a knife guy. I think the OP needs to figure out what he wants the knife for...A fighting knife for instance can be pretty light...

Just out of curiosity what are they supposed to run in an accurate rifle?

    Bad primers or something else?

You seem to be well versed in what you are doing, but have you pulled the firing pin and checked for rust/sludge or whatever? Do you run the firing pin dry? The freezing rain had me wondering if whatever is in there getting stiff in cold temps? I have seen light rifles act up in the cold before...

    .300win mag case resizing

The neck sizer does not "size" the shoulder or body. If you are full length sizing (with a full length sizer) and you are bumping the shell holder against the die you can expect a separated case head. Have you checked the case length? I have shot out multiple magnum barrels and have never had...

Anyone ever swedge their own hollow point bullets?

Rose, Would you mind talking about current gear and components pricing as well as how steep the learning curve is? That shirt is bad ass! :) I tried it 15 years ago and after dropping huge (HUGE!) money with Corbin I made a few bullets...I found the process so exasperating I sold my gear...

RCBS Chargemaster or other electronic powder scales/dispensers

The newer Chargemasters work great. Like all precision instruments some fiddling and tuning produces better results. BTW once your loads are tuned and dialed a tenth will not affect you point of impact.

    Case Annealing Question

I used to throw out my brass as soon as the necks began to crack. For the beginner I think this is the smart way to go. Many folks successfully anneal with the old torch and twirl method, but as in all forms of projects that require skill as well as some good judgement there are Darwinistic...

    Acceptable runout?

Bruce Baer (king of the 60 pound 1000 yard bench rest rifle) says he can't see any improvement in accuracy below 6 thou runout....If Bruce cant see it...it just isnt there. For me I shoot for 1 thou or less, but this is just to still the voices....No they aren't real, but the have some damn good...

    375 H@H cases stretching

Re: 375 H@H cases stretching Yes, the H&H tends to stretch pretty good. You can minimize this by running the headspace with a crush fit (don't set back the "shoulder" during resizing). Done this way the H&H to headspaces on the "shoulder". Do this for practice then open the clearances for...
