The new Athlon Ares BTR G3 2.5-15x50, initials, and ongoing thoughts.

I managed a short long range session this morning from 9:30 to 11:30. Wind was 5 mph when I arrived and about 15 when I left. Mid 50's to low 60's. The place I go and shoot from is in black cinders here in northern AZ. This is significant because the mirage gets pretty bad by a certain point...

Thanks for saying so Craig! I see your posts and wish I lived closer because it'd be nice to meet you some day. The nearest I've been in the last 10 years is southern WY by Alpine.

The new Athlon Ares BTR G3 2.5-15x50, initials, and ongoing thoughts.

I've helped in the suggestions of different features and reticles designs and get dealer discount pricing as well as have been given a few scopes throughout the years. So I tend to get enthusiastic when the next year rolls by and I try different Athlon products. Many of which I tested and sent...

The new Athlon Ares BTR G3 2.5-15x50, initials, and ongoing thoughts.

I mounted this scope on my AR upper in 6mmFatRat a few minutes ago so I'll try to get out to shoot some long range soon and see how that goes. I hadn't looked at the sunshade and scope caps yet but it turns out the scope caps are threaded so they both screw right onto the scope!!! The...

Rifle Scopes Is there a market for a good MPVO

Yeah I know I'm just venting, though mine does seem substandard. Certainly nothing special in the glass department. I should send it back.

Rifle Scopes Is there a market for a good MPVO

That LHT 4.5-22 should never have had the Razor designation. It's got Strike Eagle glass. Not a great reticle design. The elevation turret and locking mechanism of a $400 scope and 6 mils per rev is silly. The windage turret of a $200 scope. But somehow they got it the lightest weight that I...

Talk me out of an Athlon Cronus 4.5-29

I mostly use ARC rings which have been stellar. The Seekins rings are great too and more sleek.

Burris XTR2-best scope option for around 500 bucks?

If you can make sure you're getting a newer example that'd be important because when these first came out I wouldn't put the IQ in the ones I looked through up there as even mediocre. My old SWFA 3-15 had better IQ which is mediocre and my cheap G1 Athlon Argos had better IQ than my SWFA 3-15...

Talk me out of an Athlon Cronus 4.5-29

I wish I knew?! That's about the only reason I'd sell one or both of my CG2's. In other words it'd need to be a substantial step up because as it stands right now I'm fine as is in value per dollar. I'd rather have a TT 7-35 but I'd have to sell three scopes plus $$$$ to get one. Am I into...

The new Athlon Ares BTR G3 2.5-15x50, initials, and ongoing thoughts.

Some more thoughts for today. The APRS13 mil reticle is the one in my scope. It has .06 mil reticle thickness for the main cross stadia. The day I received this G3 a storm was rolling through so it was cloudy and intermittent snow. This lighting condition made the illumination, when at it's...

The new Athlon Ares BTR G3 2.5-15x50, initials, and ongoing thoughts.

Just to try to avoid some confusion here. Also as to current for today. The Cronus G2 is Athlon's highest grade scope and is manufactured at LOW Japan. Possibly a G3 will come out this year??? The one Koja is referring to is the tier right underneath the C-G2 and is Chinese made at what I was...

The new Athlon Ares BTR G3 2.5-15x50, initials, and ongoing thoughts.

LOL The Cronus G2's are already a short scope for that mag range. Also worth mentioning many of us know that when scopes become overly compact "for a variable magnification range" at some point optical compromises begin(not that I understand the physics of why). I like compacts myself but not...

Talk me out of an Athlon Cronus 4.5-29

The turret action feel has more tension than many scopes out there so they tend not to get turned by accident.

Talk me out of an Athlon Cronus 4.5-29

This is exactly what I found with my two. Also concur to the ATACR that a friend owns IQ wise. And your suggestion is right on the money because these are a fantastic value at used prices of $900 or less.

The new Athlon Ares BTR G3 2.5-15x50, initials, and ongoing thoughts.

I just got this scope yesterday and thought I'd post some whistle wetters about it. Straight off I'll mention I'm loosely associated with Athlon and have been since this company came about. That being said I've gotten a few scopes from Athlon in the past that had things I personally didn't...

Rifle Scopes Is there a market for a good MPVO

For me the reticle at 2.5x without illume on is still not easy to see on darker backgrounds but on contrasted backgrounds it's visible. Our grass is dead so it's a blonde color and I could make it out well against the grass. It looks like Athlon gave this G3 brighter illumination compared to...

Rifle Scopes Is there a market for a good MPVO

I don't want to hype it too much but Athlon just about killed it with this new Ares BTR G3 2.5-15x50 I received today! Almost, almost, almost - a great MPVO. Nevertheless it's a keeper. I'll start a thread about it tomorrow with some initials.

    308 DMR optics

I prefer to shoot without glasses as well but the ranges require eye protection. I bought a pair with large lenses in a effort to avoid the frame ever occluding my view down the scope but if my head is sweaty my glasses would slip down my nose causing the frame to be in the way so I bought a...
