    308 - Sierra 190 HPBT with RL17

Just as info IMR 4064 was used quite a bit with 190 SMK in 308.Was very popluar with mid and long range loads during the 1980's and 1990's. Regards,Mike

Federal Premium 1x times fired cases

If you decide to use the Federal Brass.Killshot44 does a great job cleaning and annealing brass for a fair price. Regards,Mike

    Separating Brass for .223???

I would sort by brand to try to control internal volume in the cases by each brand .Sorting by head stamp should work ok. Some times different lots of brass from same manufacture can vary somewhat. Some bench rest shooters will sort by how much liquid volume is in each case.I would also sort...

Anyone else had a HUGE MV drop w/ H4350

Did you change the manufacture of primers or the cases you were using ? If not sounds like an issue with that lot of powder. It might make sense to check velocity again with your chronograph than borrow another chronograph from a friend and see if there are major differences. Regards,Mike

135 smk experience in 308 bolt

I know of some M1-A shooters that use them at 200 Yards for less recoil. They had good results at short range.I think they were using a 1-12 twist barrel .The bullets had a fair amount of jump in a M!-A platform. For 300-600 Yards I would not go below a 155 Grain Match bullet. You would give up...

    Opinion on Tula primers

I know that the Wolf large rifle primers run on the cooler side.I think Tula are made at the same plant(Not sure how hot they run). For ball powder loads in cold weather I would use Rem 9 1/2 or Winchester they run on the hot side.Magnum primers will work as well. Regards,Mike

Preferred load for 18" barrel 308 with 1-10 twist?

I would try around 43 grains on RL-15 in a Lake City Match case. For a bullet I would try 175 SMK or 175 Berger.I would chronograph the load for velocity. But you should be good to go.Work up load slowly. Regards,Mike

LC64 Match Brass OK For Bolt Gun (308)?

LC Match should not have crimped primer pockets.Only the ball rounds were crimped. Regards ,Mike

    Switch primer ?

If you are shooting this in an Ar-15 Platform I would recommend CCI Small Rifle Mag Primer.Thicker cup which adds a factor of safety with a free floating firing pin.The CCI MIL Spec Primers will work as well .The hotter primer will also do a better job igniting a ball powder in cold weather.I...

    30/06 and Berger VDL

I would recommend using 308 for a build if you want 30 cal for 600 yards and under.30-06 will let you use heavier bullets for long range. But its a lot easier finding actions and stock for short actions .Brass is also easier to find for 308.Do not sell short any of the 6mm-6.5 mm cartridges.Good...

    .308 200-300 yards (Bullet)

I would second trying 155 Grain bullets.Less recoil and higer velocity. It just depends sometimes if your barrel and twist rate like them.I would try most of the brands and see what your barrel likes, Regards,Mike

Should I Keep my PPU 145 grain ammo or sell it?

The PPU ammo is Ball ammo.Although some lots may shoot well (Aprox. 1 MOA). Most Ball Ammo will shoot (2.0-2.5 MOA). That ammo is fine for a battle rifle but is not the best choice for a precision bolt action rifle.I would use match ammo or learn how to reload if you do not already. If it were me...

Buying bulk 55g .223 bullets to reload

My Rock River will shoot about 1 MOA with Hornady 55 FMJ .I use 25 Grains of H-335 with Wolf SRM Primer(I use the hotter version for ball powders). Brass was Lake City.Like other have said use match bullets for precision work.I find the 55 grains are fine for pinking at 200 yards or under.Match...

    Loading 223 using 8208

Be careful IMR 8208 peaks real quick. I will not go over 23.2 with 77's or 80 grain bullets with use in my AR-15.This is with LC Brass. Regards,Mike

    Loading 223 using 8208

I use 23.2 grains of IMR 8208 with 80 Grain SMK.This is out of a 1-8 Lilja barrel with a Wylde Camber. No signs of pressure .But I would start out at 22 grains and work up. Regards,Mike

    LAPUA SCENAR 167 grain

I would use the IMR 4064 Powder.I would use IMR 8208 for Bullets 155 Grain and Under.IMR 8208 peaks real quick.I would start with 41.0 grains of 4064 and work up.I probably would not use the Federal 215M Primer. No need for a Mag primer in 308 in most cases. You will get better standard deviation...

Case life in 308 gas guns?

Thanks for the feed back on the Federal Brass. When I compared the FC-12 to Lake City(308 Cases) they were almost the same weight within .4 grains. When I sectioned the case the web thickness was aprox the same within .002 .The annealing looked the same as Lake City..The only difference I saw was...
