Case life in 308 gas guns?

Depends on the condition of the brass you start with. But generally Lake City or Lapua should go a least 3-5 firings depending on how you rifle is head spaced and what type of loads you are using.I would not reload Federal Brass in a gas gun.(Not the Federal Brass marked FC-12 .That brass is...

    Bullets and brass basic questions

Wideners usually sells the 55 Grain 223 from .09-.11 cents apiece.Pats Reloading usually sells bulk 75 Grain 223 bullets for about $150 a thousand.30 Cal 308 175SMK usually go for about $160 per 500.The problem is finding bullets in stock. The places that have them in stock currently are usually...

    Bullets and brass basic questions

For the pistol you may want to try some plated bullets(lead bullet with thin coating of copper on them) . They will be cheaper than FMJ bullets.I would recommend that you try several brands in small lots and see what your pistol like. Before you order a bunch. The only draw back to plated bullets...

    Acc 2495, imr 8208 xbr, imr 4064

IMR 8208 peaks real quick.I would not shoot anything heavier that 155 grains in 308.For the 168 and the 175 both 4895 and 4064 should work very well.I have had great results with H4895 and the 155SMK. Regards,Mike

    Gas gun reloading

I would suggest using CCI BR-2 or the standard CCI Large Rifle Primer. They have a thicker / harder cup that add a factor of safety with a free floating firing pin.I use the federal 210M in my bolt gun.It only takes one incident to cause you a bad day.Like others have said the wolf primers will...

Very inconsistent Varget results, help with groups

I shoot a lot of NRA Crouse the Course shooting.I know that some powders to not play well with others. What I mean is if you shoot one load with a ball powder than shoot another load with an extruded powder it may take up to 10 rounds for the load to seattle back in due to the different coatings...

    sticky 7.62 reloads

IMR 8208 builds pressure quick.I works real well with lighter bullets. But would not recommend with 168 or heavier.I have had friends using that powder with 155 SMK.They switched to Varget due to pressure issues.I love IMR 8208 for 223 with 77 grain bullets.IMR 8208 reminds me a lot of N-135.It...

Problems With American Ballistics 7.62 M118LR Ammo

If this was not new brass.I suspect that they reloaded military brass with a crimped primer pockets. When they went to remove crimp they probably over reamed the locket and caused the loose fit.If new brass the primer pocket could have been stamped incorrectly or was damaged in manufacturing ...

    wolf primers in stock

I usedthe small rifle mag primer in miltary brass with reamed primer pockets with no issue,I used a sinclair hand priming tool to seat primer.Have not tried tham with a swaged pocket. But I would think they would work fine. The key with these primers it to make sure you feel the primer seat all...

    wolf primers in stock

I have had good luck with wolf primers both small rifle mag and large rifle. They are just a tad larger than US primers so in some brass they may be slightly hard to seat. Regards,Mike

    Berger 155 vs 175 or 185 for .308

Just a heads up.45.3 is the max load listed for 155 Grain Bullet in 308 for IMR 8208.I was using 45 grains with Laupa brass and was starting to have pressure issues.(hard lifting bolt). Regards,Mike

    Loads for Garand

I would recommend loads using LC 30-06 Brass. For a primer I would use Mil Spec CCI Large Rifle. For Powder IMR 4895. A lot of people I know use around 46 grains of powder with 168 SMK .Work up to 46 grains do not start at the top end first. For a bullet 150-175 FMJ. SMK 168 or 175 should shoot...

    Precision Primers

I use Wolf Small Rifle Magnum for my 223 and have had great results. For 308 I use CCI BR-2's.The only primer I choose not to use are Winchester due to the soft primer cups.I like the old chrome plated Winchester primers. But they are no longer being made. At the end of the day it comes to to...

    Does IMR 4895 meter well?

You can use the IMR 4895 .It will work fine.It also Works well in 308 as well.Sometimes IMR 4895 is an over looked powder. It use to rule long range loads in Plama Loads before Varget came around.I recommend the Ball Powders because they throw better and WC-844 and H-335 is what is usually...

    Alternative for varget for 308 / 223

Plus one on Rl-15 .Shoots great.Just not as temp stable as Varget.Buts its not too bad on at hot or cold day.IMR 8208 also shoots little bug holes and is very Temp Stable. But it will build up pressure quick.I find IMR 8208 similar to N-135 in performance. Regards,Mike
