Caliber Choices - Comparison and Applications

Re: Caliber Choices - Comparison and Applications Isn't the 6.5x284 a long action as well? 284 is a short action, but only with short ogive bullets, for bullets such as the 180gr. Berger or 162gr. AMAX, a long action or mid action (such as a mauser action) is necessary.

    300wsm out to1800yds?????

Re: 300wsm out to1800yds????? The 300WSM is capable of slinging the 208gr. AMAX at a bit over 2900fps, with that it should almost reach a mile before going subsonic. My long range load that I am currently testing is the 230gr. OTM hybrids at 2730fps, I've taken it out to 800 with spectacular...

    300wsm effective range?

Re: 300wsm vs. 6.5CM I shoot only rounds abouve 200gr. in my 300wsm sort of as a case study to myself that it can be done and done well. I shoot the 208's, 230's, and 200's and my 300WSM runs right there with the 300WM in terms of velocity and accuracy, it is usually about 50fps slower for...

Former LEO gone crazy in SoCal

Re: Former LEO gone crazy in SoCal It said in his manifesto somewhere that he was fired for being a whisleblower, he caught one of his superiors beating an unconscious schizophrenic and tried to turn that person in, but instead was framed for making up false reports and was fired, he detailed...

Barrel choices and questions on .284 win build

Re: Barrel choices and questions on .284 win build I have a 25.25" 284 barrel that I use on my Savage long action, I was recommended this length from my smith who has a lot of experience with the 284, he said that's the minimum he would go, although it can still perform well with shorter...

    savage 10 trigger locking up

Re: savage 10 trigger locking up Expect the Sear to wear and loosen a bit after some use. As recommended before, your best course of action is to increase the trigger pull weight to compensate.

    Tell me about .243 Win

Re: Tell me about .243 Win The plus side is you get a very flat shooting round with a wide variety of bullets with great BC's, My hunting rounds with 80gr. TTSX's are getting 3330fps out of a 24" barrel, its a laser out to 400 yards.

Reliability during field use: Rem or Savage?

Re: Reliability during field use: Rem or Savage? Have two savage rifles and haven't had feeding problems with either, one feeds from a blind mag and the other from Alpha mags. Both are very accurate and have their fair share of aftermaket parts. With that said, there is a place for both in...

Anyone use the LEE universal decapping die?

Re: Anyone use the LEE universal decapping die? My lee decapping die has been used and abused and still works fine, once you have it set, you won't ever move it, mine has been sitting on my cheap Lee C-frame press for years now and has been holding up amazingly well.

Build existing Savage 110 or Make Rem 700 purchase

Re: Build existing Savage 110 or Make Rem 700 purchase Nothing wrong with working on a long action, if anything it increases your options. The 284 is a great cartridge, I just recently built my 110 as a switch barrel between 284 and 243, the 284 is a great, balanced cartridge with a lot going...

    Savage 10FPSR + Shilen 6.5CM bbl + AICS = nice!

Re: Savage 10FPSR + Shilen 6.5CM bbl + AICS = nice! That is a beautiful rifle, the rugged look of the AICS stock seems to match the Savage action. Update us on how that thing shoots.

LH Shooter using RH Bolt Gun

Re: LH Shooter using RH Bolt Gun I hunted for about 6 years with a righty bolt before I came of age, when I was old enough to buy my first rifle, I went for a lefty, and I have never regretted that decision. Not only can you keep your cheek weld, but it also saves precious time when you're in...

    caliber chiose. 260 or 7mm-08

Re: caliber chiose. 260 or 7mm-08 I love the 7-08, it does very well when paired with the 162gr. Amax and is a great hunting round with bullets in the 140gr. range, plus I am a huge fan of anything 7mm.

So, why Berger VLDs when we have the Hybrids?

Re: So, why Berger VLDs when we have the Hybrids? I jump my Hybrids by abou .06, they shoot just fine. I personally go to the hybrids first for this very reason, I can get them to fit in the mag and don't have to worry about chasing the lands.
